It'll be interesting if manure and leicester do chelsea first 2 games, and then norwich, and the sheffield blunts get something out of their games. How long will Lampard last?

People keep saying that the step up from Derby County to Chelsea might be too big for Lampard to take at this early stage of his career.

I don't agree.

I don’t think it matters where you come from. Chelsea’s never a step up.

Win-win for both.

Easy scape goat if things go side ways. But the fans love him and won't turn against the board if things turn bad.

Gamble worth taking for Lampard. Worst case is he gets more experience and learns from this.

Hate to say this but... really smart move. They got someone they can fire easily and they don't even have to risk giving him a war chest.

Seems strange to me how they can do this. Its two separate seasons, so what if he played there last year.

Because the deal was agreed last season. Uefa wont stop it as you will be punishing the selling club aswell.
Say it was a smaller team that had agreed the price and had already spent the money on other players. If the deal fell through due to uefa's transfer ban then it could put them in financial trouble and even lead to them breaking ffp.

Not saying i agree with it, just that seems to be their thinking.

As I said....crafty bastards....making a mockery of imposing a ban.

It's why they haven't appealed to the cas. They want the ban this season as their spending was already done to an extent.
Same as ac milan want their european ban this season as they are in the europa league.

Not fussed, didn’t see much of kovacic to warrant the high praise he got from many on here before he joined them.

He had an awful season, I felt he was a complete passenger in most games he played and his stats were terrible. You can't play 51 times in all comps as a box to box CM in a 4-3-3 and end up with no goals and just two assists.

If he'd been on loan at us and had that season I would be dead against signing him.

True but was his first season in the Prem.

Hope it doesn’t work out but I don’t write my own players off after a season so won’t to others.

I try not to judge new players too harshly but his numbers were so bad and he just looked like he didn't belong on the pitch. He must be a demon in training for them to want to keep him.

Croatian international and played for Real Madrid. Probably not a bad player.

Maybe the transfer ban has forced their hand a little.

You can be a club legend lets say at Fulham or Saints ETC middle tier clubs and go on to fail or succeed it all depends on your ability.
The legends like Zidane or Pep have taken over what was at the time probably the two best and successful clubs in the world who had loads of money to splash on the top talent.
For myself until one of these so called mega star managers do something like Clough did at forest then to me they are taking over at clubs where success is almost nailed on.
The real top managers to me are the ones that succeed at lesser clubs with little if any transfer funds the likes of Warnock and fat sam.
It would be hilarious to see Zidane or Pep at Cardiff or Brighton ; no money no superstar players and fighting relegation they would not have the guts to go near such a quest.
Clough
Nicolson
Revie
Mercer
Shankly
Paisley
Wenger
Ferguson
These are managers that really built something out of very little with lasting success.
Pep/Zidane/Mourino/Allegri/Ancelloti/Van haal/these are men that jump from one uber rich club to another uber rich club where the millions of pounds available to spend give an almost guaranteed chance of trophies.
