Lampard has got a three year contract.
First season is a gimme due to transfer ban, so it's going to really be about what he does in the second season.

If he makes it that far! Personally think he's out of his mind taking that job

No chance he was ever going to turn it down, he might never get the opportunity again. If Derby finished outside the playoffs once or twice he could be out of a job there or just staying and stagnating at a Championship club.

Long term I think this transfer ban will be a blessing unfortunately, they've got some decent young players at the club who will get a chance now and they have an opportunity to rid the club of the poison in the dressing room and start again (to an extent) with a manager in charge the fans will back.

I’m not so sure about the first season being a free hit. With the squad he’s inheriting, they should be challenging (arguably qualifying) for top 4.
The only position they lack depth is centre forward.
If they were to finish, say, 6th, I think he’d be under immense pressure going by benchmarks of previous Chelsea coaches.

Hope that the Chelsea board gives him time to develop the squad. He has a lot of work ahead of him. Can't be easy knowing that you won't have Hazard running the middle and creating most chances.

They just lost their best player by far. But with the state of arsenal and utd they should still be getting top 4.

I wouldn't say it's that cut and dry. Hazard was, without doubt, the most important individual player to any of the top 6. He was both their top goalscorer and provider - without him the team looks very light on goals and lacking in creativity. Willian and Pedro are both getting on a bit, Pulisic could be great but will never get close to matching Hazard, and none of their strikers are prolific. Add in the injury to RLC and the need to blood a bunch of young, untried players and...it's a very difficult job indeed.

There quite simply aren't enough goals in that team to challenge for the top 4 in my opinion.

See Redknapp jr has popped up with the old "he needs to be given time"

Pretty sure he wouldn't be saying that if it wasn't his cousin and was a European coach.

I agree with you but I don't trust the other teams to take advantage

Exactly. When a talented young Portuguese manager gets hired by a shit team like Hull it's all doom and gloom about how he's got no experience in the PL and they'll lose every game. Same for when Southampton hired Pochettino. But when it's a nice British bloke from a family of proper football men, even though he's got even less experience, he's still the right man for the job and just needs to be given time

I don’t disagree but knowing Chelsea’s demands from on high, I can’t see them accepting dropping away even with losing Hazard.
The club should make a statement that Lampard is their man for the foreseeable future but I wouldn’t expect them to do that.
Hopefully it goes as well as other heroes returning to manage ‘their’ club, like Glenn Hoddle!!!

One season with a team and losing in the play offs with a team that was expected to go upwithout the need for the playoffs .
I really don't get the confidence but am pleased nevertheless for I see this going tits up but if he does succeed then I will hold my hands up in apologies.
