I thought he also said he wants to keep playing CL, he'd be giving that up by going to us.

You might be right though, who knows

I thought he was open to it but was waiting on an offer from somewhere else i.e. Real Madrid or Chelsea?
That's how I read it and as it stands it appears no CL teams want him, certainly not want him enough to buy him anyway.
It may be that Chelsea stump up the cash but as I said, it'll have to be an awful lot of cash.

Still think this might have legs - small ones - but if he wants to leave and we believe what we were told about having a deal in place it could happen very quickly.
cue the optimistic ratings ??

No it doesn't mate. Romero is top class and will show that once he's settled in and Sanchez and Dier regardless of their pervious form have both been brilliant so far this season. Alongside Romero, I feel both would up their games even more so I feel we're covered in that area with Rodon and Tanganga as fall back options if we have injuries. I can tell you for a fact that we won't be going out spending €50m on a CB when we have far more pressing matters.

With Sanchez settling into the first eleven and Dier doing a fine job so far there is no need for a top class CB.
Cover for RB and any sort of creativity should be cared about.

It was only a goer if Sanchez went the other way. Even Chelsea are baulking at paying his asking price.

The way Sanchez has been playing I cheekily want to say that they'd barely get any money on top of a swap now. I doubt it's a goer now which is testament to Sanchez. I have mixed feelings about it all, on the one hand I'm absolutely gutted we didn't get to land Kounde as he's one of my favourite players outside of Spurs but over the moon that Sanchez will get the opportunity to hopefully continue on the trajectory that he's on.

There's not a scenario where we would ever get to have both this season so I guess we move on and see what happens next summer if Chelsea aren't going to pay up.

Well Chelsea still got something out of this failed pursuit - they successfully blocked us from signing a key target (hardly the first time). So in that respect I'm sure they'll consider it was worth it.

As good as Sanchez has been of late, Kounde would have struck a far better balance as partner for Romero. With his strong press-resistance and ability to carry the ball out of defence he'd have brought us something we lack. But ah well, I am at least happy with our solidity now, unlike last season.

No they didn't. Kounde wanted a Champions League club.

Reports indicated that he would be interested if no CL club was interested. Had Chelsea never entered the scene, maybe he would have been interested.

Irrelevant now, as Sanchez has proven himself.

So he would have waited for another club any way until the final week/days and we would have been his fall back option right about now. Whether they were in for him or not, he didn't want us and would have made us wait regardless.
