I agree we should be going after other players, but don't tell me he's not an upgrade on Winks.

Winks could only dream of doing half of these things

No disagreeing that he isnt an upgrade on winks. I'm saying that we should be aiming higher than an upgrade on winks. What about an upgrade/competition on PEH, Lo Celso, NDombele etc. You end up with a much higher quality squad.

I'm torn over JWP .

On the one hand he isn't great in general play. Not terrible but we could do much better.

On the other hand his set piece delivery is absolutely world class. I've watched him for years and there is absolutely no one in the Premier League who is anywhere near as good at this aspect of the game.

The question is how good are we at engineering situations where we can take advantage of this ability and do we have the players to capitalise on it?

As others have pointed out someone like Bryan Gil is likely to win a lot of free kicks but will he be a regular starter? He's promising but we have yet to see him play for the 1st team even once.

Then do we even have the players to convert from JWP's delivery? We only ranked 14th in the Premier League for winning corners last season and I can't remember us scoring from many of them.

I'm still on the fence :cautious:.

Agreed. The bigger issue for me is the premium we may pay for an English MF as well. Money that could be spent elsewhere, perhaps they've enquired about Winks or similar, hence the potential interest.

As many have noted, he's an upgrade on Winks and/or Sissoko but is that the best we can do? His FKs would be a great attribute and oh how i've missed seeing a Spurs player who can take one...I'm almost tempted to get mad and demand we sign him just because our FKs and corners in recent years have been utterly shite.

Good player, but would likely cost a bomb. Unlike Ings/Vestergaard, JWP is on a long term contract. So unless SCBC have a balance sheet problem, they should be under no pressure to sell. Would therefore assume that Fabio can get better value for money elsewhere.

I'd be open to a deal where we send Winks to Southampton in exchange for James Ward-Prowse also staying at Southampton.

Cant see Saints letting a 3rd big player for them go, plus 4 years left on his contract and English. Our survey says.. eeee errrrrrr

Personally think this would be a better midfield target to go for but we'll see as it's a tentative link.

He's not homegrown, though. I can't see us paying a premium on a foreign player from England when other leagues are so poor right now.

Bissouma

PEH -------------- Lo Celso
What a cracking midfield trio that would be.

Can’t claim to have seen a huge amount of Ward Prowse, but from what I have seen he’s pretty one paced and seems to run out of steam by the hour mark of matches. Great set piece taker no doubt, but I worry about other aspects of his game.

If it wasn’t for his set pieces I don’t think anyone would be excited by the prospect of him signing.

That said, I fully admit I was underwhelmed by Hojbjerg initially and he’s proved me wrong!

Other than his free kick taking ability, I don’t see what else he offers that would drastically improve our midfield.
Winks was ahead of him for an England squad place and that for me speaks volumes.
For the money Southampton will want for their captain with 4 years left on his contract, it wouldn’t make sense.

Bissouma for Rodon - get it done

JWP brings an intensity and attitude you just don’t see Winks possesses and will never possess. JWP would bring something to the team, Winks sadly just extends the bench.

I was all over him before this window and really think he will be useful to us. But after the likes of Romero and Gil coming in, with possibilities of Vlahovic/Martinez, I think Paratici is showing us a higher realm of possibilities in players we can dream of. Just like Winks, JWP will probably be suited to Southampton/Villa/Everton.
