No idea which way any of this plays out now, but it doesnt seem positive anyway right now unless club decide to spend big money.

If we sack/lose conte I think Kane is on the first bus out after him, no chance he is interested in a rebuild. And if we hire Poch again we are looking at a bunch of players who were already getting tired of him a few years ago. Personally, if I was at a workplace and an old manager who got sacked came back to manage me id probably try and leave to do something new (although the players that were still here need to be moved anyway). Maybe Kane would now go to newcastle considering their progression & potential spending power he could see that as an option now instead of going to another top 6 club. I dont trust the club to make the right decisions though unfortunately

I accept that we’ve got players in our squad who are not good enough and need to go. I accept that the owners need to back Conte financially to help him succeed. What I struggle to understand is how a world class manager can make such little impact on a team through they way he trains them. How are we still conceding so many and creating so little? I’ll give him a pass today because there was no one available to bring on, but why does he not affect the game with subs and tactical alterations? He is living on his past pedigree and if you saw him now, without any prior knowledge of what he’s accomplished as a manager, there would be absolutely no clamour to keep him at your club. I’m not saying I want him to go right now but I don’t trust that he will be backed with what he wants and therefore we’re going to watch more of the abject shit we’ve been seeing pretty much this entire season so far.

I just don’t see performances improving quick enough to save him now because if we play anywhere near how we have been then Arsenal will hammer us. There’s no surviving that with where we are in the league and the trajectory of us and our top 4 rivals.

Yet another ‘crossroads’ in the history of this great club, one I love despite feeling totally meh about them at the moment……how many more is it going to take before someone gets it right……if ever…

It’s a player issue not the manager. How May serial winners do we need to go through to prove that.

Kane and Son were lazy. Lloris dropped another clanger.
Why are Kane and Son playing that way though? These are guys who’ve run through walls for the club. Maybe they’ve got bored of the defensive football and feeding off one or two chances a match. The body language is so bad atm

From the Beeb:

Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte speaking to the BBC:

"In the first half we played with good intensity. We didn't concede anything and we found a team that defended too deep and then we conceded this goal and then the confidence dropped for my players.

"We have to know that our life is this. We have to fight every game for one point or for three points. This is the truth, especially when you are without two or three important players and have difficulties.

"We have different characteristics. We don't have many players who are really good to beat the man. We don't have many creative players in our team. For sure today was really difficult to find space in the first half.

"I'm sure that if we don't concede the goal, we could win the game instead. The goal that we conceded killed us in confidence and in many situations for sure. You have to try and improve and develop these players and especially young players to be even stronger."

On conceding first again: "We have conceded the first goal and for sure we try to play to score goals. There is an opponent like you that can score during the game. We understand very well that the league will be really really difficult for us.

"We have to try to recover all the [injured] players and then we have to know that in every game we have to fight and show that we are strong. The league will be very difficult for us.

"I want to be honest, I want to be very clear. I have said this to the club, I have said my opinions. The fans deserve the best. Maybe to stay in 5th is the best. Maybe 6th, 7th, 5th or 4th is the best."

I agree with this. To me we're not that far off from being a really good team. We're creating good chances and scoring well, even with all the caveats you note with Son and Deki. The defense is in a bad patch, but I think our resilience to come back into games is a really good sign; to me that means Conte and the players are still fighting and believe in each other, so it's not like the last days under Jose or Poch when it seemed like the locker room was lost and the players weren't trying. As you say, a couple players in, some good news on the health front, and we could really hit a string of good results, I think.
Define good team? If it’s winning something we are a long way off.

Was it a player issue last season when they got us to 4th place?
Yes

We had one game a week. Our season changed when we got deki and bentacour

We've not been able to cope with the added challenge of CL because our squad depth and youth options are sub par because of years of under investment in cheap options the board likes

We're missing the first teamers today and it shows.

Changing the manager won't change the rot at the top

We're at the stage where everyone's assuming Conte's going. Just like with Poch, where I assumed we wouldn't be that fucking stupid, the momentum is building...
Really don't know what was going on behind the scenes when Poch was fired, it felt like the end really shouldn't have happened as more backing was needed.

I do think in that moment, we didn't have much choice, Poch looked defeated, the squad weren't playing for him anymore.

But again, that would have been avoidable had we heeded his warnings about refreshing and behaving like a big club.

The club has a choice now. Get Conte signed on by promising big signings and intent.

If they have no intention of doing that, then we are just going to drift until ENIC fuck off

Trying to find a glimmer of positivity - perhaps this is the result that gives DL the final push to finally realise that we are miles off and need to shit or get off the pot

So how about that patented Conte pre-season?

I’m so underwhelmed, genuinely believed we would come out all guns blazing after the World Cup.
