Close the thread - re-open it on September 1st, let me save you trouble of checking it every day it'll effectively be this:

"Great signing but never worth £40m"
"Reports that someone else has put in a bid"
"JUST PAY WHAT THEY WANT LEVY"
"I didn't want him anyway, I actually think we should sign XYZ"
"Some random account on Twitter said he might still be amongst one of the options being considered"
"Levy has let Ange down. Failed to back another manager. I wouldn't be surprised if he resigns before the season starts"
"Fabrizio Romano said we're still negotiating but no breakthrough"
"I HAAAAAAATE LEEEEEEEVVYYYYYYY!"
"Welcome to Tottenham!"
"Why did we go for the cheap option again - why couldn't we sign someone higher profile"

Etc

you missed the bit where he lets the ball slip through him on his debut and then gets sent of for hand balling outside the box

Not bothered by Forster . If he stays or goes . Couple of good performances but I find with him he can’t get down quick enough to make saves . Certain games stand out Leicester away Southampton away Brentford home . Goals in those games I really feel a top keeper would save .

Agree. After everyone said it was right to drop Hugo he proved that he was no better.

This will drag on until beginning of August at the very least. No way we’ll pay £40m and it doesn’t sound like Brentford are in the mood to lower the fee. The fact Raya’s agent had to come out and say he will stay and collect his wages for the final year of his contract, and then leave free, says to me he’s been told they won’t let him go for for a reasonable price either.

Kind of comparable with what Levy is doing with Kane tbf so I don’t blame Brentford one bit.

Surely that's just his agent trying to call Brentford's bluff, though, and force a move?

Brentford's model is a bit like Brighton's and they need to make money from sales so I think they'll be keen to do a deal, so it's just a matter of who blinks first and whether we want to play games all summer or just pay up and get it done.

Probably end up meeting in the middle and settling for around 35m including add-ons I reckon.

I don’t think it’s particularly comparable to Kane, they’ve already signed a replacement who is statistically very similar to Raya so the marginal value of keeping him and letting him go on a free isn’t huge, certainly not worth 40m. But they will have no incentive to drop the price while other big clubs (United and Chelsea in particular) are on the prowl for keepers. They can delay and hope a bidding war emerges or we run out of patience.

Yup, and Levy seems to have utterly lost any powers of football negotiating he may have had at one point. Bet he's got some bargains in the real estate market recently though... 🤪🤕

They also won’t want to lose out on any money from him going on a free. Really hope we can get this done

This is such critical part of Ange’s style of play, and getting off to a confident start, we need this guy in before preseason. It could cost us far more if we piss around on this one and end up settling for cheap alternatives.

Will Levy take the long term view??? Emmmm …..

Yes that’s what I meant. He is trying to get Brentford to lower their asking fee. The fact he had to say it though meant Brentford have probably already said they don’t want to budge on the fee.

I think this signing makes a lot of sense. He’s a good ‘keeper, good with his feet, right age for a ‘keeper too, Prem experience, and HG status. I’m guessing he wouldnt have to uproot his family/home/lifestyle too, in joining us. So many positives.

We can discuss all we like

It's the bit where we agree that's the problem

Big statement if we go and get this done before pre-season starts IMO. Biggest priority this window is a new keeper and going and getting a very, very good one who also has a few years Prem experience tied up nice and early is a great start

Does “discussing on final fee” mean we are close? Other reports suggested we are a long way apart?

I really like that we are going for Premier League ready players. I know last year’s signings didn’t go as planned but I reckon if they get over the injury problems they will great next season.

Had a good feeling this would progress, when I saw the Brentford Directors quotes about 40 million, it seemed quite light hearted and jokey about him being a 10.
