Has the money for JD been paid yet? Haven't heard it confirmed, so when and how much I wonder?

It's only a loan at the minute. Permanent deal to be settled soon. Probably around 8-9m.

...the two deals were dependent on each other with us getting £9m for Benjani and spending it on Defoe.

Redknapp's wheeler-dealing has finally bitten him on his arse, then. Cos they only got £3.87m for Benjani. I suspect this is far from a done deal...

I doubt it's anything but instalments from Twitch 'n' Co. So that will be downpayment 1. I expect it's spread out over a couple of years probably dependent on a multiple of the interbank lending rate of the Afghan banks.

Juande Ramos was forced to sell Jermain Defoe to Portsmouth by Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy despite the head coach's hope that the striker would remain at the club, a highly placed source at Spurs has claimed. However, the club insist that the only reason for the sale was Defoe's refusal to sign a new contract.

Defoe failed to convince Ramos that he should be a regular starter, though after the Spaniard did not bring a goalscorer to White Hart Lane during the January transfer window he was reluctant to lose the 25-year-old. But, the executive told Observer Sport, Levy ordered Defoe's £7million sale. If true, the intervention of the chairman calls into question Ramos's authority at Spurs, in a manner reminiscent of the problems that led to the departure of Martin Jol, the former Sevilla coach's predecessor.

'The deal would not have been done unless the chairman had informed Ramos he must let Defoe go,' the executive said. 'In the end Pini Zahavi [the Israeli agent] intervened for Portsmouth and proved the brains behind the move. He talked to Daniel Levy and persuaded him the club should let Defoe go. Judging by their reaction, Portsmouth and Harry Redknapp were more than happy to have landed him - they are convinced he's the best natural scorer in the Premier League.'

Spurs denied that Defoe had been sold against Ramos's wishes and said: 'It is a matter of public record the chairman wanted Jermain to sign a new contract, but because the player didn't want to he was sold.'
