I have been amazed at the hostility in the ground to us as a team. Not out in the fan zones or streets as every tournament I a great crack and brilliant fun, but you can garantee we are never gonna get the backing of the neutral in the ground.

I'm not sure what exactly we have done to piss so many off, but just seems strange to me. The cheers that went up when Italy put their pens in was like we were the away support and neutral fans were pretty much all in it for Italy. And there were a huge amount of varyiation as well not all Ukraine.

It may be because we were crap and they were much better than us.

I think that for the neutral, England don't offer anything attractive. We can't keep hold of the ball, use boring tactics, don't create exciting attacks and crap displays by our "big" players.

Italy on the other hand were trying to win the game, passed the ball around well, created a number of clear cut chances and generally played well.

If you were a neutral, who would you back?

Yeah, as a neutral I don't like the England squad.

Watching John Terry and Ashley Cole lift the World Cup would destroy me. Watching James Milner and co. kick the ball to the opposition for 120 minutes was not fun at all.

Also, there's this entitlement to win every tournament they enter. They've won one World Cup (in a dodgy final, but I won't push that) and have never been to another final of a major tournament, ever in history. I think that entitlement might turn a number of people off.

They have this one lovely club in London, though!

But I wouldn't say it is just this tournament, I have seen this in Germany and portugal as well. Maybe it does have more to do with our history aside from football?

Don't get me wrong I thought we were outplayed and deserved to lose but from the first kick of that and every game it's the same.

In many cases, it's 'real world' history and the things we have done in the recent and distant past.
Hit the nail on the head, although the facts that many of the players that have "defined" the national side recently are ****s and we play boring football are definitely also factors.

Little Englander attitude to football and Premiership coupled with 'real world ' history as mentioned.

No offence but I tend to want every team that is playing anti football to lose unless its against one of our rivals then its funny:)

what can they expect... little beggars keep asking for handouts :) ........(i am joking :notworthy:)

If you take public and private debt into account the UK is one of the most highly indebted countries in the world. The budget deficit this year is expected to be around 9% of GDP this year, which is still one of the highest in Europe, probably on a par with Greece. The only good decision Brown, Darling and Balls made was not joining the Euro. Otherwise the UK would very much be doing the begging now. (I am not joking).

I am not entirely sure that the OP's premise is correct. The UK is much loved and respected on the continent (not by the French obviously) for many things, but not for it's football.
