We should have gone in for Chiellini in the summer. A proven winner and a great influence for the rest of the side. Instead we got Perisic.
Yeah but all that good stuff about Chiellini that you mentioned doesn’t really matter because Perisic was free.

Being last seasons top scorer has no bearing on how he's currently performing - he's been poor all season and shouldn't be in the starting 11 right now. However bringing in Son as the only change would've probably been okay.

Saying Porro should be enough because he cost £40m is nonsense, he hasn't done anything to prove he's good enough, has had limited time to train with the team and has had even less time on the pitch with them. Added to that the only times he has played have been alongside Sanchez and Tanganga, I don't expect him to be up to speed. Again, if he was the only change it would've probably been alright and would've allowed him to build a relationship with Romero.

Sanchez... £40m, 6 years ago. The price has no bearing on how he should perform and the truth is he's not been good enough for a long time now, okay he had a solid period towards the end of last year in a settled team but throwing him into a side full of changes was never going to work, as it has proven time and again since he joined.

Sarr for Skipp - no problem there.

Perisic for Davies/Lenglet - no problem there.

Lucas for Kulu - the less said about Lucas the better.

Overall though, it's not the individual changes in themselves (although we saw recently with just one change we went from beating city 1-0 to getting hammered by an awful Leicester team.

Making wholesale changes was never going to work, it's happened time and time again, there really should be no surprise that we lost last night.
So why did it work for Sheffield who did more changes?

And what about the experience of those players?

Did check wiki now, the six players in our "wholesale change" have 330 caps together. I can't believe you think this is the problem.

Been a while since I posted on her. Could drag up posts from last year, 5 years ago and even 10 and there would be no change in what I would say. I could go back to losing to Cardiff City in the 70s and Port Vale in the 80s and know what was going to happen last night.

I love Tottenham, have supported through thick and thin, but the club right now drags me down mentally. The club is well run off the field but on it we have a ways to go. Yes, we are in better shape than Southampton, Leeds, Everton, etc, but is that the standard by which we want to compare ourselves?

I will repeat what I have said on here many times. In order to become a winning club you have to actually win things. The mentality right now is to finish top four and compete in the Champions League. It is not to win the Premier League. It is not to win the Champions League. It is just to compete. It certainly is not to win a League Cup or FA Cup.

The owners of the club and by extension Daniel Levy have made it clear that what they want is a sustainable business model built on the PL Top Four and consistent appearance in the Champions League. I am of the generation that would prefer to see us lift a trophy.

Had Man City, Chelsea and now Newcastle not received cash injections we may have won a trophy or two more in the last 20 years. The landscape has changed because of those three clubs and we are not in a position to stay with them now.

If Arsenal win the league fair play to them, but the atmosphere at the stadium will be toxic if it does happen. They have kicked on since we beat them last spring. Oh how we laughed at them at the time.

I know Arsenal as Woolwich, Lucky Arsenal and Boring Boring Arsenal, but they have a manager and a group of players playing in a style that we want to see at The Lane. They are closer to Wenger's Arsenal than Graham's or Neill's while we have lurched from Mourinho to Nuno to Conte. We have betrayed our own traditions and have nothing to show for it except a shiny new stadium.

It was frustrating thinking about what might have been especially when the home draw agaibst Blackburn came out of the bag, but the most disappointing aspect of last night is that we barely created a decent chance against a side from the Championship, no excuses really.

For me, the real problem this game highlighted is our lack of technical ability to break teams down and just how one dimensional we are in attack.

The only way we can create chances is when the opposition team exposes themselves and we have a fast counter attack. In a game like this when a team sits deep and invites pressure we are toothless, clueless and just completely devoid of ideas.

We can talk about awful performances but we do not have a plan when we actually have a lot of posession. Comepltely laughable because we clearly have talented players yet can't beat Sheffield United second team.

Embarassing.

I saw this doing the rounds but haven't verified that it's actually true.

But if it is, it speaks volumes of the appalling recruitment job done in that position.

I usually get over our multi annual abject losses to teams we should beat, but this one has really stuck in my craw.

It didn't help that the club was wanking on about Conte getting nominated for motm the next day - I know it's the social media team but it proper comes across like the club has shrugged and thought meh, onto the next game. Our failure in the fa cup should be a significant moment but the club just doesn't seem to care.

I'm at the stage now where I think that it would be better for sides like us not to enter the FA Cup and League Cup. They are clearly low on the priority list, so at the moment we get the worst of all worlds. If we didn't enter, at least time could be allocated to training etc.

I would personally have loved us to go all out for a cup, but it is never going to happen. UCL qualification is the sole aim every season.

We should be able to do both - look at ETH at United , given the ammunition to compete on all fronts and will qualify for CL this season whilst collecting pots at the same time, look at the lift that gives club players and fans - no wonder he turned us down

I don't think we offered him the job, from what I read we weren't impressed after talking to him.

Non-League Wrexham caused Sheffield United more problems in the previous round than we did at any point in the match on Wednesday. I'd hoped that Wrexham would get through but I think we'd have lost there as well.
A sad reflection on Tottenham Hotspur FC in 2022-23.

That result has killed the season for me. We are obviously not winning the champions league so another trophy less season. I would have celebrated winning the FA Cup more intensely than I celebrated getting to the champions league final that night in Ajax.

By the time I was 21 I had seen us lift the FA cup 3 times in 10 years. I am now 54 and haven’t seen us even reach a final in all those years since.

We could very well stumble over the line in 4th spot again, but it will hold no special excitement for me, unlike last year when we took the spot from the goons and I had genuine hope (because I’m an idiot) that the penny had finally dropped for Levy.
