The thing is that if he wants to go to the WC he will want to go where there is a chance that will happen which rules out a number of clubs. He won't sit out January as he wants a chance to go to the WC. Everton, as much as they bark, will want to get some dollars, opposed to zero. They kmow with absolutele certainty that he won't be bullied going to the highest bidding club. They know he wants us!
Common sense conclusion; they had more power in the just closed window, but not much with just under 6 months left on his contract in January.
He will still consider his future though and so of those clubs that may enhance his chances there will be those he wouldn't consider which leaves a pretty small group, us and possibly Arsenal who will, let's be honest, be desperate to get someone in come January.
If Everton won't deal then his chance has gone anyway and he will review his options under completely different circumstances.
Will we be the only options next summer? Not necessarily but I still can't think he'd find a better one because he will still want to enhance his England chances and playing alongside Dele and Kane beats any other option.
If he can make it work for him he could be the main man in the England attacking midfield come the world cup 2022.
