I think Ange will be given serious funds, but I think it will take the form of buying a few players in the £25m-£50m range rather than a statement signing of a new striker. We just seem more comfortable shopping at that level. Even the last year or two most of our best signings have been young players bought for relatively modest fees and presumably on relatively modest salaries.

The fact we’re still a few players short, rather than just one or two, makes this even more likely imo.

I wouldn’t completely rule out a statement signing at some stage, because we have done it before- think Ndombele. There’s also a chance we unearth some striking gem. But I would be surprised if we’re shopping for one in the £80m-£100m range. At least I would be surprised with it at this stage in our development.

Still, I think it should be an interesting summer.

We don’t really need to be shopping in the 100m market…we have to scout good players that fit the system with potential to explode.

I do agree that Sonny can't play up top and Richy is frustratingly injury prone but I think we still need more quality throughout the squad.

I also agree that we don't really need a CB, we've got 4 and a couple of good youngsters waiting in the wings.

I'd personally say a proper DM needs to be a priority, someone who can protect the defence because Biss has fallen off a cliff.
I also think we need a different option or two out wide, some more technique and guile, along with maybe a reliable cover/competition for Madders.

I just can't see us spending a fortune without shifting a fair few out first and proper decent strikers are few and far between.
So while I'd love a top striker, for the money we'll probably have and the price it would cost to get one, I think we've got other priorities first.

I guess we'll have to see what Ange thinks he needs.

Yeah we definitely need a striker but as you say we badly need quality out wide and a 6, plus the depth at FB and AM as you say.

You could stick Isak in our team and he would obviously improve us but if we don’t sort out the balance out wide the improvement really wouldn’t be as big as some people think.

Trying to solve too many positions in one go is a fools errand. We are often chasing 4-6 positions - how can we need that many year after year? It'd be good to solve 1 or 2. And after Kane's departure, a striker is certainly a spot we should attempt to resolve. It would cover a lot of other frailties if we got it right.

Good video about Ange here.

Also a whole section dedicated to 1v1 wingers within this and shock horrror, guess who they highly recommend we sign? One of Doue, Williams or Summerville… We’ve heard those names before 😂

The reason Ange is a good fit for us is because he doesn't need massive money spent. We had 2 managers who needed that budget but it was never happening. We just need to keep doing what we've done the last couple of years. Get players who are high quality and with potential to get better but who fit the system. They also need the mentality for the dressing room and really want to be a part of what we're doing. Another summer like last in the remaining positions of need ( defensive midfield, fullback and forward) and we're going to be a force.

I'm not sure how Ange sees it but from my untrained eye a defensive midfielder in the Rodri mould is what we really lack

Richy and sonny both offer goals and yeah that position could be upgraded but we're fine if they're playing but when I watch us out midfield is far too open so that's what I would concentrate on.

Also I hate to sound like a nut but if we had our fair share of penalties our season could look pretty different. The odd point added here and there would put us a lot closer to the top three.
