I agree Ronaldo bottled it, unless he wanted to take the 5th. Bit of a risk though.

Great pen from Pepe, and it REALLY irks me that Fabregas scores the pen to send them through.

Haha Ronaldo waiting to take the winner and he doesn't even get the chance.

Schadenfreude.

Looked like Ronaldo was due to take the fifth one.
the coach will have decided and give the list to the ref. i guess they thot it would go down to the last kick, or even to sudden death.

Best part of the evening was that **** ronaldo trying to line himself up as the hero to take the 5th penalty and not even getting to take one. :ROFLMAO:

Just like Ronaldo, Fabregas asked to take the fifth penalty. Will people stop overreacting now?

Fabregas isn't the captain of his country, the focal point of his team and the self-proclaimed best player his country has ever seen. Ronaldo should have gone first.

One could easily flip that around and say that he should have taken the fifth and decisive penalty, which he didn't get the opportunity to take.

That was a fascinating tussle. Got a bit flat towards the end but I was impressed how hard Portugal worked to make Spain look very insipid for large chunks of that game. With their team, their tactics were spot on. The work ethic and off the ball pressing Spain do often gets a little overlooked, but last night they too found themselves having to work hard to limit Ronaldo & co to so few clear opportunities, but this they did. You can't help but feel of Torres was Portuguese, then Portugal might have won that game last night. They were horribly let down by the ineptitude of their central strikers (Almeida and Oliveira). Personally I'd have been very tempted to move Ronaldo over to the centre and play someone like Queresma/verela left.

Cool penalty from Ramos.

I just think that both of those two teams will take a very patient approach to the game and it'll turn out to be a very tentative, cagey game, whereas Germany are more likely to try and force the game and put some pace and energy into it than Italy. Of course it could turn out completely the opposite, but that's just what I think.

Who would you rather see in the final?

The first Italy Vs Spain game was fascinating and thoroughly entertaining.

Although I would like to see Germany play Spain in the final, I think that could be quite a historic game actually. Germany trying to prove they're not nearly men, Spain attempting to become one of the greatest International sides ever, if the not the greatest outright.

Germany v Spain would be the right final as I think they are quite clearly the two best teams (probably in the world) at the moment. Would also be really interesting due to their contrasting styles.

If Spain do win it, for all the talk of them being a bit dull (and I think last night bore that out to some extent) they would surely be the best international team of all time. That sort of dominance, over a four year period and with a lot of the same players, hasn't been matched before.

Probably Germany, as you say they are more pacy and fluid up front, but Italy Spain could be just as interesting.
With so much at stake finals can be strange affairs, just hope I never witness Holland's attitude in the last WC again.
Totally neutral on whoever plays, just want football to win.
