Lads come on. Just go to Ndombele thread to add to the opinions on this that have been done to death.

It’s not for the Tapsoba thread is it?

New contract signed according to Kicker.

In the transfer period that has just ended, managing director Simon Rolfes put together a top-class squad for Bayer 04 Leverkusen. The managing director is now in the process of retaining the existing staff for the long term. Central defender Edmond Tapsoba is the first.

Central defender Edmond Tapsoba has extended his contract with Bayer 04 ahead of schedule. The 24-year-old, whose previous contract ran until 2026, is now committed until 2028.

Rolfes sees this as "absolutely forward-looking for our team and our club. Edmond is one of the best central defenders in the Bundesliga and he definitely has the potential to make it to the international top." And the managing director emphasizes the importance of Tapsoba's commitment: "This contract extension has a signal effect for us. We have ambitious goals in Leverkusen that we want to achieve with great players like Edmond Tapsoba. His footballing class combined with his enormous calm and composure make Edmond a top professional and a fixture in our squad."

The new contract should also contain an exit clause.
For Bayer, the contract extension is a coup. The new working paper does not necessarily make it more likely that the courted defender will stay longer. Like his old contract, this should contain an exit clause in the high double-digit million range. But the signal sent by the Burkina Faso international's signature is a strong one.

Tapsoba: "Very emotional connection" ... With only one season left, Bayer would be under pressure to sell, because otherwise the player in question would be lost on a free transfer in the summer of 2025. Rolfes and Carro want to avoid this as well as a sale below market value next summer. Signs like that of Tapsoba, who should have been granted a significant salary increase for this, can be helpful in the plan to bind the trio in the longer term.

That would be in both Bayer's and Tapsoba's sense. The 1.94 meter tall defensive giant not only calls his decision "a commitment to a club with which I have developed a very emotional bond since my arrival in January 2020", but also underlines his ambitions: "The environment in Leverkusen is a special for me". "The fans support the team fantastically, our squad is getting better every year and I'm absolutely convinced that at Bayer 04 I have the best conditions for a successful future."

Meh - don't care.

However we ended up with Micky - we got the player that fits our squad. Buying Tapsoba as a backup would not have been smart money. 😉

I must admit this is the player I wanted over VDV but I’m pleased I’m wrong. VDV has proved to be an excellent signing so far.
