Player Watch Player Watch: Timo Werner

I'd probably opt for selling Solomon and buying Werner to be honest. Partly because Werner has shown he's got some quality there and frankly in a team that has largely been under performing recently he's looked like one of our better players in many matches. If we can get back to the way we were...

    Mauricio Pochettino

I'm probably being overly harsh on him, as like you say he went through a very good patch at one point this season, but we need someone more clinical up front, someone who thrives on getting on the end of a ball and burying it in the net. Richarlison is not this type of striker. I'm also likely...

To be fair in possession based football (i.e. Ange's style of football) the need for a proper DM is a lot less as in theory there should be little defensive work needing to be done in midfield. Sure tackles need to be made, but that's a given for any midfielder. So I can see the reason why getting a confident...

    Raphinha

Agree with the above comments. Under a different manager I'd be very interested in him, but under Ange I don't think he's what we need right now.

    Mauricio Pochettino

Yeh to be fair we're getting a lot better at A) spending money and B) shifting players on. Many of those we need to shift from that 12 are in the final years of their contracts so will be easier for us to let them go at knock down prices, because frankly anything we get for them is a plus over...

    Conor Gallagher

This. We need a first team DM (6) and then Bissouma can rotate and provide competition. We also need a new AM (10) that can come into the first team when Maddison is having a poor patch and provide rotation and cover for that spot. We have Sarr, Bentancur and Bergvall coming in for 8, which...

    Mauricio Pochettino

Firstly Ange has won a bunch of stuff in his career using this approach, in fact he's won way more than Poch has. Secondly Ange is trying to get a style of play into us as a team. I can see why he's continuing with this, because as soon as you start varying away from it the whole system comes...

    Financial Fair Play (general thread)

Not really as right now only Chelsea are over the limit and they've spent £1bn in the last few windows on players. So basically we can't spend £1bn every few windows, but otherwise we can match the spending of the big clubs like City etc... Also what the 70% rule does is force many clubs who...

    Team for Chelsea

My shithouse 11 for Chelsea: ----------- Vicario Porro - Dragusin - VDV - Emerson ----------- Romero ------ Deki ------ Lo Celso Johnson -- Richarlison -- Son

    Financial Fair Play (general thread)

This backstop IMO is basically designed to stop Chelsea and others finding loop holes around the UEFA 70% rule. Because with that (and the new version of PL PSR) clubs will be able to keep spending levels high by finding forms of revenue like sponsorships and selling themselves their own assets...

    Eberechi Eze

But when we do they are usually CAA Base clients, like Eze.

    Eberechi Eze

I can’t. There’d be much more noise on this right now if that were the case. I’m not saying it won’t happen but he doesn’t seem like he’s high on their priority list.

    Eberechi Eze

Seen the bbc article about palace wanting £60m. Seems about right in terms of them agreeing something in the region of about £50-55m plus some add-ons. Whether we see him as this year’s Richarlison, in terms of spending at the top end of our normal range or not is to be seen. But I don’t think...

    Eberechi Eze

It all depends on whether A) Palace want/need to cash in and B) City see him as a main target. If Palace want to sell for a realistic price and City don’t have him top of their list then we’re in as good a position (or better) as anyone.

    Eberechi Eze

Market has tanked with PRS. Highly desirable players will still demand high fees, but clubs just can’t afford many transfers now so player valuations will have to come way down. If we were still in 2022’s transfer market then we’d probably have a shot at getting £15-20m for him.

    Financial Fair Play (general thread)

Will still have the amortisation, you can’t stop that. At the moment you sign a player you commit to an amortisation of his value over his contract length. If you sell or release him at any point the remaining amortisation amount simply hits the books at that point in time.

90% was this season. Next season is 80% and then 70% the following one.

    Financial Fair Play (general thread)

The point is that if his final year value on our books is £10m and we keep him for his final year then we have £10m to write off at the end of the year (June). If we sell him for £0 in July then we also write off £10m, we just do it at the start of the financial year rather than the end, but...

    The Summer 2024 scouting thread

Agree with this, I was keen when we were linked with him last summer. He's been on excellent form so far this calendar year too, with 12 goals in 12 games and finding the net in at least 1 out of every 2 games: And nicely there's a distinct lack of assists in there, which is what we want...

    Eberechi Eze

I think he's the ideal player for us in that he can cover both positions. So in Son, Maddison & Eze we would have 3 very strong players across LW and AM. That then still leaves room for bringing in say Werner and another wing option for the right to compete with Johnson. For me Deki will have...
