Zero expectation. Now I know what it feels like to be an Everton fan. 🤣

It’s one of those games where on paper you’re thinking God helps us. It’s been a while since we’ve played a quality side and they’ve had a player do something stupid (e.g. get sent off)… hoping for a repeat of this otherwise I just can’t see us taking anything from the game.

Goodison park tonight showing us the type of noise and hostility we need to bring Sunday and most importantly .. belief ! Even if we do go a goal down can’t allow the stadium to turn toxic.
All about how we start the game. Start well, score the first goal and the game should be ours for the taking same as Everton did.

Could do with Maddison and Biss finding their early season form. Also be great if Richy can start and if Porro can start.

COYS.

Excited to be going to this one.

With our defence, this could be a 0:5 or 0:6 defeat, have absolutely no confidence in or defence…
It’s not our defence but more Bissouma isn’t offering enough cover so we are completely exposed.

Sometimes if it's just an individual playing shit we might get away with it though when the whole team is abject and not up for it does not matter who starts at times.
I want more passion and hunger in the team as a whole where that may come from.

Madisson has been a bit of a show pony for half a season now. Hopefully he can pull his finger out in this one and stop larding around aimlessly, 2 yards off the pace. He's really lost his cut and thrust that he had during the honeymoon period.

We're 17 points behind them, which is abysmal. Time to stop with excuses and actually perform for a full game.

Would you rather…

Smash Arsenal 4-0, ending their season and leaving Arteta crying on the pitch at full time but we still finish 5th

or

We lose against Arsenal, they go on to win the title but we win the rest of our remaining games and sneak 4th?
In many ways the EL would be better for us next year so I'd take 5th and beating Arsenal all day long.

I don’t think it’s abysmal, given where we are at. We finished 24 points behind them last season and if anything they have become stronger this season. There’s every chance they will go on and win the league from here. They’ll at least finish in the top two.

In 2020 we finished 40 points behind title winners Liverpool.

In 2019 we finished 27 points behind title winners City.

In 2018 we finished 23 points behind title winners City.

Even in 2022, our best season for about five or six years, we finished 22 points below title winners City.

Seems weird that we were the better team at theirs earlier in the season, yet we come in to this game with such low expectations. A point should be the absolute most they walk away with on Sunday, and could effectively end their title challenge if City beat Forest.

They're a very good side, but they're certainly not unbeatable by any stretch of the imagination. If we're not up for this come Sunday after a 2 week break I'll be very disappointed.

nah it just means you actually 'get it'.

I know where you are coming from but there’s a bit of the West Ham cup final about this stuff. You know the way we usually have other priorities but West Ham always seem to be massively up for it? And that just feels small time to us?

Arsenal are going for the league. That’s their main priority at the moment. And one of our biggest hopes seems to losing a match.

I reckon it's abysmal. Our players have every modern benefit and opportunity afforded them in the professional game in terms of facilities and access to preparation. Along with exorbitant salaries that are the norm at the top end of the game.

And yet they have seemingly no professional pride that they fall so far behind the chase for top honours. Gaping holes of 7, 8, 13 games worth of points behind. It's shocking really when you consider the levels of support they get.

Chelsea even had their chances, Wolves had their chances, Villa had theirs and took theirs. Arsenal have been good but have got the luck of the green in a lot of matches.

We've no excuses.

Yes theyre in better form, but it counts for fuck all in a derby.

Two weeks to prepare

We'll know in the first 5 minutes how up for this we are.

The thing is unlike other coaches, Ange doesn’t really plan for the opponents, he just focuses on our style of play regardless. So where as a Conte / Mourinho would have probably used the 2 weeks looking how to stop the scum we will just go out and try do what we do. Whether that is the right approach remains to be seen.

Our players have at times over last decade let us down with lackluster performances in big games. This has certainly not happened in every big game or anything like it but has happened enough times that we all probably have PTSD from it.
What we need on Sunday is for them all to turn up. Son is making right noises in press and I hope the others have that same desire. Obviously I'll be pissed if we lose but the actual performance we put in is massive. We have been poor recently and are coming off the back of an absolute hiding against Newcastle straight into a massive game against our biggest rivals. They need to put in a shift that reflects that.
A win against arsenal would likely rattle villa a bit and would put us in great position just like in 09/10 when we beat arsenal and Chelsea back to back to help put us in a great position to finish 4th.
I'm bricking it.
