Scores a 96th minute winner and there’s still people slagging him off here, there and everywhere.

No wonder he barely celebrated.

Why is it wrong to criticise a player despite him scoring the winner? He was abysmal today and barely did a thing right, the worst of which was almost costing us a goal by leaving Porro to deal with a 1v2 (watch who Porro and Romero have a word with after Fati just puts his shot wide).

Kulusevski was great whilst on today and as others have noted we lost a lot of control when he went off. Not only did he retain possession whenever we got it out to him, but he also rolled Estupinan multiple times and provided the assist for Sarr. Johnson came on and we lost that pressure release on that flank.

I'm happy he's getting the goals and assists but I don't think Johnson could've offered us all that Deki did in that first hour. I also don't think Deki has the legs to make that run and put the ball in at the end of the game. Both players give us something different and I think I prefer seeing Johnson as an impact player where his pace can really make a difference against tired legs.

I can see why some may think he's not trying as when a full back runs past him he does the bare minimum to track them. (and often less) you say about busting a gut to get to that back post, i'd like to see the same gut busting to get back when Porro is left 2 Vs 1...

Also a few passes into him today where he didn't even try as his marker got ahead of him.

I like the fact he brings something different in he's a more direct option with a bit of pace on either side but for me he looks unfit.

Pleased for him (and us) if he keeps on scoring though...
Maybe he was told to stay high and not come back as his pace would be a key weapon against a tiring defense on the counter?

I'm just saying this kid can't do anything right with sections of our fanbase and it's tiring to see after every single game. Son has off games then scores with his one shot on goal. It's like you're all expecting him to be this world class flawless player when he's still a young kid who moved permanently away from Forest for the first time in his life and career. He has had a stop start first season with us, while we as a club are going through a first season with a new manager and a new play style. We have been massively disrupted by suspensions and injuries.

Honestly he's doing as well as anyone could have hoped for at this point.

Love him for that. Great run, great finish.

But it seems like he only really does well on counters tbh. I hope he can get some confidence on the ball in open play, cause he looks like a scared rabbit most of the time out there. I don’t get it.

He's a kid that's just joined a massive club. Pressure here will be greater than he's ever faced. Needs time to adapt to that and to develop physically and mentally for that the expectations are but he has the potential to do so. Give him time and let's see but it's great he's getting vital goals here and there now.

Why's it important to criticize any player just because they have made a mistake?

What is the purpose, or end result you are looking for here?

I see way too much micro-criticism on here that its just not healthy, and it does bleed out into real life, and you see it on all kinds of social media - and that gets back to the players.

Trust in the manager to have a word with him on where he needs to improve - but Ange said just today - that one area they have been working with him on to improve is showing up at the back post - and now he has two goals to show for that effort - he is learning, and improving. Give him, and other players, room to make those improvements without over analyzing or judging each possession.

My biggest problem is that some players get more criticism than others. For example, if Hojbjerg played like Bentancur did vs Brighton some of our fans would want him out of the club. The same goes for Johnson. Some people loves a scapegoat.

Johnson and Deki both have the same amount of points this season. The difference is that Deki have played 800 more minutes than Johnson (almost 9 whole games). He also scored some very important goals (vs Brentford and Brighton).

It seems like the consensus is that he is not performing well in his all round game but that he has key attributes (running in behind with pace) that gives us goals at the moment.

We would all like to him to have that pace while also being amazing on the ball, but I don't think that exists outside the elite players of the game.

Looking at the numbers, he has either created or been on the end of our biggest chance in 8 games this season (measured by xG).

He is a huge attacking weapon for us.

Happy for him and I think we are going to see that move a lot more in the future. Goals can do a lot of good and I hope he really kicks on.

Simply put, I like him and he's doing well so far but he could do better.
I'm sure he will, given time.

I completely agree with you @Bluto Blutarsky regarding the micro-criticism.

It just doesnt work like that in football. The coaches wont turn to the player and pick out the errors and weaknesses they have.

What they will do is just give little prompts and tips but mostly create sessions for the player to practice that aspect of their game.

At the moment Johnson's biggest weakness is his timidness.

That doesnt improve overnight and it doesnt improve with a coach constantly picking his game apart.

It improves by giving him space and chances to grow into.

I also think he has been unfortunate (not in a bad way) that we had so many injuries as we have had to push him into the spotlight more when he probably needed a season of cameos and rotation.

Just so he could adapt to the demands and pressure.

Agree.
I understand he's 22 and this is his first season with us, but I just dont tolerate the lack of effort. He never tracked back, and got anticipated every time they passed him the ball.

I agree with your first point, the chance to jump on Hoijberg anytime he has a poor spell in a game, but Bentancur hasn't been at it since being back, but we let it go.

I will just say I think Johnson is going to be a big player for us, however...

Goals and assists are not the only stat to go by. Off the ball Kulusevski is far better, his pressing and how he basically terrifies defenders with his workrate and physicality is superb.

Also on the ball, he played a lovely ball to Sarr today leaving to the first goal.

Both have fantastic potential and both are still young.

Kulusevski is not shooting or crossing like he did when he first came, I don't know what's wrong but he's not his usual self.

With Johnson, he has everything going forward, he just shys away from it. He seems to be a confidence player.

Both of them offer different options and both have huge potential, let's see where are in year with these two. They both could be great.

With Werner and Son we are ok for now, but we must be considering a big move for a left winger to eventually replace Son.

He’s doing better in his first season with us than Son did in his first season.

Criticism is fine, if it’s us having a discussion on here and not personal. If he’s outed on social media or bored in the stadium then it’s out of order.

Some of the comments were personal, look at the match thread.

Calling him a nothing footballer is way more than criticism..

(Load of shite anyway)
