Anyone else feel like we are waiting out the Gallagher deal to the last minute to make Chelsea sweat...or is that just hopeful thinking?

Hopeful thinking. Chelsea know we are not buyers at the current price, so they won’t be sweating out anything.

Gallagher is an opportunity buy, not a necessity in January. If anything , we will test their resolve this summer.

They have until June 30th to make ~£100m in profits on player sales. It would be a big risk for them to be relying on buying clubs wanting to do serious business that early in the summer window (especially as the summer window doesn't usually open until mid-June).

Depends when they need money by. We've seen with Nottingham Forrest and the Brennan Johnson deal that a few quid extra didn't do them any favours.

Chelsea need to sell academy graduates to generate accounting profits. This probably means one or more of James (currently injured and injury prone), Chalobah (ditto), Broja (not very good) and Gallagher. Is there anyone else? If not they are going to be forced to sell Gallagher.

Broja/Chalobah any club paying more then £20m for them is desperate and stupid. If Chelsea need £100m from that then Gallagher £40m & Colwell £40m are the guys that could get you close, the rest, no chance.

I think they'll wait until June and if they can't shift enough Gallagher will get sold ahead of the deadline. I don't think they'll sell this window.

If Chelsea still need to raise funds by 30th June, the summer transfer window opens on the 14th June. Interested buying clubs are gonna take it down to the wire and squeeze them massively. If I was Chelsea i would try to get a deal now to take all the uncertainty out of it.
Could be in for an interesting few days in west london.

My expectation is that if a club offers to buy (or loan with obligation) for PEH before deadline, and he accepts to go, then we would see that as the green light to go for Gallagher before the end of the window.

At this point though, I doubt that happens.

can't see them taking that risk with so early in the window, unless they got something else cooking they'll be sweating

What if they sell Gallagher now but then got a good offer for one of their other less needed players in June? I think they take the risk waiting and if they have to sell Gallagher they will. It will be at a cut price considering he'll have 1 year left when they sell him. There won't be any shortage of interest in Gallagher at a reasonable price.

but they can't bank on a good offer for one of their players real early in June

Of course but I'm saying they'll take the risk. I think Gallagher considering he's first choice and being named captain is going to be last resort. I don't see them being desperate to sell this window.
