Ally Gold:

Another 18-year-old in Belgium's Juliper Pro League, Royal Antwerp central midfielder Arthur Vermeeran, has been watched this season by Tottenham and various Premier League clubs. The teenager, like Nusa, could be available to clubs for north of £25m but with a loan-back mooted.

if we could get him for the summer, we’d more or less just need backup for left back, maybe a striker and Madders backup.

He is a DM that can tackle and pick a pass, so he keeps his team ticking and is a major part of their build up play. The other good thing about him is that he has an absolute engine on him and doesnt stop running. He would be perfect for us and I wouldnt be surprised to see him become our starting DM in a couple of years.

Sorry. Didn't realise we had a thread.

@Ghost Hardware

Talk to me..
I’m out tonight so won’t be able to do a full write up. Maybe tomorrow I’ll write something if I’m not too hung over but probably by then someone will have got it covered.

In brief the most exciting thing about him is his football intellect. At the age of 18 he is already an integral cog in Antwerps midfield. I don’t think you will find a YouTube clip of him that will display his ability well enough as what makes him so special is how he plays the game over the entire time he’s on the pitch not just a 5 sec clip. For his age his positioning and in game intelligence is remarkable. He can play both as DM and CM. He is very good defensively because of how well he reads the game and positions himself. He would probably rotate with Sarr if he joined but could equally play deeper just as easily.

He isn’t the kind of player who will necessarily be playing outrages passes but he always tends to have a high progressive pass success rate because of his excellent vision. He always offers himself to being a passing outlet and likes to be on the ball. And he’s a hard worker but that is pretty much par for the course with most targets these days. Considering his importance for Antwerp keeping him on loan would 100% be the play even if there was an option to bring him in now as the faith they put in him he has had an incredible effect on his development.

He might not be a flashy player, he isn’t, but his understanding for the game is incredible. He reminds me of Scalvini in that sense, although they play different positions both have incredible football intelligence for players so young. From what I remember reading I think Barca are big fans and when watching him in game you can understand why.

Would fit us really well but again is another project player. Exciting times.

The other point I want to make with him is like Nusa, he is very level headed and thinks about his career a lot. He was interviewed and said that his next club has to be perfect for him. He wants to play and doesnt mind if its not for one of the very best teams in the world at the moment. He also said its important to him to have a good talk with his next potential Manager......Ange has got this!

I admire your optimism but he’s not even at Spurs yet but you wouldn’t be surprised to see him become our starting DM? 😆

For what it’s worth having only seen him once against Barcelona in the champions league this season I hope you’re right. 🤞

Is he press resistant?

Is he press resistant?

Looking at his shirt, I should say so.

Begs the question though why we didn’t go for Scott from Bristol City in the summer transfer window. He had the advantage of being HG( and a huge Spurs fan).

- Different strategy at the time
- Ange probably wanted to assess the squad in the summer and midfield numbers weren't lacking
- Alex Scott was injured
- Vermeeren is more a DM/CM while Alex Scott is more CM/AM

Just offering possible reasons per your (reasonable) question. I like Alex Scott

Vermeeren looks really good as a DM. I like the look of Wharton a lot too, he’s one of those players where it looks like the whole game slows down for him. Love the forward thinking strategy at the moment.
