I’ve been critical of him, but today was a step in the right direction.

Fair play to the lad, maybe he’ll turn it around and become a viable squad player.

Someone give me his running stats from today the boy ran his heart out he way not be good enough but as a squad player you’ll always get 200% he just kept on running and apparently he’s ill too

honestly, most people on this forum could make/see this run if they played a game
that's beside the topic. the question is whether they would have made it and whether it was intentional to create space for others.

and the answer to that (in my opinion, obviously) is Skipp didn't intentionally make that vertical run to create space for the cutback. he seemed to be filling a lane to provide an inside outlet, which is fine and part of the value he presents: his stamina, his work rate, his relentless running.

now, I have been a big critic of his and still don't see him as a long term regular fixture in the starting XI but gotta say that he was pretty good today overall. didn't hinder Spurs possession one bit, as he often does. won't find him doing turns and find complex progressions like Biss and Sarr are able to but he provided value in other fashions, one of them being the one presented in the video.

His pass to Werner was poor really but how great is it that when we pass the ball the first instinct is to drive forward. So often players are driving ahead of the ball and it creates havoc for the opposition. They have no idea whether to go to the ball or follow the runner. It's not just conventional movement but everyone does it. Skipp is very switched on and while he may not have the highest level of ability he seems to follow instructions well. We're down to the bare bones and I don't know if there's realistically a better player to call on than Skipp with this many out.

there was a bit of a lack of coordination with Werner all game long and the goal was another instance. Son usually plays on the left and he likes to stay with outside leverage to get on the ball and force the 1v1. his usual instinct is to slow down to create cushion against the FB until the midfielder gets him on the ball. Werner on the other hand is more of an off ball attacker. his reaction there was to flex the run inside and try to get in behind.

guess my point is not that it wasn't necessarily poor due to technique but due to tactical familiarity. perhaps a more polished midfielder makes a better read on the fly but yea, the adjustment period of dealing with a new winger cuts him some slack in my eyes.

No it was just a poor pass, it was a bit behind and wide of Werner but it's just kind of funny that we still scored from the attack. Almost like it worked out better anyway.

err, that's what I said, just presented a theory as to why that happened...

I see a continuous improvement, in his touch, mobility and speed, as he gets game time.

When he came back from Norwich, in Conte’s team, he was the first midfielders name on the team sheet. He was excellent at reading attacking movement, intercepting and tackling.

Today he’s getting close to his best. He is a little “safe” compared to Biss and Sarr. But his intelligence on and off the pitch, coupled with him being one our own, means I have plenty of time for him.

Credit to Ange, everyone who he has bought into this team, has done a good job. I baulked at Skippy and PEH starting. But both stepped up, and Skippy showed some more attacking “flair” than usual.

Onya Ange!!

he explained this when he was doing pitch side post match interview that he thought werner was going to stay wide, and he was upset with his pass and credit to werner, kept it alive.

so its more of not understanding each other as timo is new here rather than poor from skipp

he was bloody excellent yesterday. If Bentancur made that pass you'd all be creaming yourselves, and rightfully so.

All this faint praise through gritted teeth from some who have already made their minds up does my head in.

I thought Skippy played a good game without qualification. Add into that that Ange says he has been ill all week and that makes it outstanding IMO. He chased and harried without the ball and on it his passing was neat and tidy and he even played a couple of key passes too including the pass to Werner which led to Bentancur's goal. The other thing I liked about Skipp particularly was that, like Bentancur his first thought was, 'can I play this ball forward and maintain the momentum?' This is what set him apart from Hojbjerg whose first instinct was to turn away and head back towards his own half. I really like the way he looked for those little passes that kept us ticking over without being negative and he was comfortable playing first time passes as well which kept a nice rhythm to our game. That pass to Werner was incredible. Shame about his finish! I have heard and read a lot of criticism of Skipp this season but I think he showed how important he can be to the squad yesterday.

I wouldn't be opposed to keeping him until the summer as a squad option and then reassess.

For me you keep a Skippy in your squad all the time. Utility player, hard working, willing to be on the bench and wait for opportunities without moaning about it. Not everyone can be a superstar!

not his biggest fan and was dreading the game seeing him and Hojbjerg together in midfield. But he was outstanding affected the game in all phases and seemed to have a bit more confidence back as well as seemingly being back to covering the ground really well which has been missing since his injuries.
