If they can’t get game time with the injuries and suspensions we have I don’t see when they are ever going to play. I thought Postecoglou was supposed to be brave and give youth a chance because I’m not seeing it which is very disappointing.
They are both 19 and inexperienced, no need to start laying into them for not getting picked to come on in a very important and competitive premier leage game.

Not gonna lie I was concerned at half-time, but we were really good in the second half.

Gio was incredible.

Even though they lost, I was super impressed by Bournemouth and Iraola. His pressing structure is fantastic and it had us beat for most of the game. Super vertical and physical play with the ball to create havoc in the final third. Should’ve scored on numerous occasions. And the fact everyone’s stuck with him when it looked like he could’ve been sacked early on shows me he’s got more than just tactical ability. Top manager.

Yep. Gio ran the show. We need to get that contract extended ASAP. I've always rated him and said pre season he would thrive in a pass and move team.

His composure on the ball is what was badly lacking against Brighton but I expect composure from him. Where he really impressed me today was with the energy off the ball.

Get that pen to paper.

You’re right, Postecoglou doesn’t give youth a chance.

That’s why we’ve seen nothing of Udogie, Sarr, Johnson, VDV or Veliz all season.

Would you want our manager to pick the youngest available players rather than the best available players?

Phillips is an 18-year-old player who only made a handful of appearances in the Championship last season, so I'm unsure why anyone expects him to be playing for a team that's only 3 points off the top of the PL. He was recently out injured for a month and only returned to full training about a week ago, so was unavailable for five games. We have no way of knowing how match-fit he is currently.

Donley is an 18-year-old youth squad player who Postecoglou (unlike any of our three managers last season) has promoted to the senior squad. Postecoglou brought him on as a sub twice, while Phillips was out injured, including giving him his PL debut. It's very possible that those brief appearances would instead have been handed to Phillips, had Phillips not been injured. Realistically, he has only been included in matchday squads, let-alone played, because we've had so many injuries.

Alex Scott didn't seem to celebrate his first Prem goal too much. It seems like he's a proper hard core fan, which could bode well for us in a year or two.

I think was more down to the fact they were 3-0 down at the time, if it was an equaliser it'll be different.

Missed the game as was at the panto (oh yes I was!)

Great to finish the year with three points and an Arsenal loss. Good to see Richarlison among the goals again. Onwards and upwards - happy new year to you all!

I missed the first 10 minutes of the game, so I didn’t get to hear the surprise — shock? — the commentators must’ve expressed at Bents being back. That came out of the blue. Thought he was crooked til end of next month…???

Another game, another win and still the same bemoaning of academy players not being given minutes? It's NYE let it go for once.
