It shouldn't be the nature of the draw though

It's stupid organisation

Not really the point after a game like that, but the authorities do seem to have designed this tournament so that the best four teams could never be in the last four
I agree, it has taken the gloss off the tournament a bit, games like tonight befit a semi or final.

So fix it?

That's the only way it can be done. England got the easiest group for sure. But it's a random draw.

In football terms it would bel ike saying Man City and Liverpool should always be given easy games in cups to make them get to the final.

Plus like England, past history says they should be good, but they arnt, if they turned shit right as this all started (like Germany in the world cups recently)should it then be changed to let the next teams get to final.

what a pile of shit, you have to beat the best to win… you cant be fucking whining about the draw 😂

you sound like liverpool fans..

Tbf it was made 3 years ago. I have no idea why. International rugby is not as corrupt as International football but it is a lot dumber.

sorry but if yer the best, youll win against all comers, youd had to have beaten them at some point to win the wc. Tourneys never truly reflect who are the best teams any way.

It's true you have to beat everyone to be champions but every major tournament has seeding for a reason - to have the best teams progress to the end. Seeding this tournament 3 years ago has definitely made it much less of a spectacle.

I guess the Irish can't complain about not being champions but they deserve to at least be in the semi finals and probably the final which would have meant a lot.

Current rankings have Ireland at 1, France 2 , SA 3 and New Zealand 4, so we might well have got the same games in the semis rather than the quarters. Apart from ending up with lop-sided semis*, does it really make much difference?

* Not unusual at my age.

Not even so much about the Irish but the 4 top teams having to face each other in the QF doesn’t seem right the seeding 3 years ago is odd which i doubt they will do again.

Has the draw always been done that far in advance? as a lot can change in sport in 3 years and has done so in rugby

I can consider myself a fairly expressive fella. But in all truth, I genuinely can’t really articulate how disappointed the Ireland result has made me. I feel dead.

Agree. Serious missed opportunity considering the form over the past year or so.

The missed Sexton kick that would have meant a penalty in the final minutes would have been enough, the bounce of the cross field kick, loose conceded tries and our own try held up - real chances fs.

Unlike football (generally) credit to New Zealand who were superb defensively and clinical in attack.

Still fucking gutted though 😢

It does because Ireland would have grown in the tournament. Learned more. Not kicked to the corners. Taken the points on offer and not gambled so much. They lost the game by beating themselves last night. Had the seedings been correct they would have pumped Wales, Argentina or us and faced nz in the semis. This tournament is a mummers farce.

Whilst I'm not sure it would have somehow led to an Irish title win, it doesn't help that Ireland had a much tougher group with having to play South Africa, and even Scotland.

England and Wales having the chance to get to the semi-final without having to play any of the top four teams is pretty daft.

This is true, and it certainly has resulted in a very skewed bunch of matches.

At whatever stage you face the big guns you have to perform at a level that gets you over the winning line. NZ stepped up; Ireland, sadly, didn't.

But on the plus side we saw a great game yesterday, we will I think see another today, and there will be a juicy final to look forward to. And of course England could still win.
