We get both in and our defence is sorted and potentially settled for half a decade. Romero, Tapsoba, VDV, Phillips.

I think the most important part of getting both in is that we finally overcome the hurdle of the long painful rebuild Poch spoke of. We'd have young good quality depth in CB, a midfield that could if form is hit consist of Sarr, Skipp, Bentancur, Bissouma, Lo Celso, Ndombele, Maddison and we all know about how depth in the forward areas.

I sincerely hope we don't leave ourselves 1 injury away from having to rely on the old guard. That's my biggest concern I'm defence and a very real one we should be pondering when making decisions.
Please don’t forget Alfie Dorrington. Huge potential

Completely agree.
Totally, you can see how good our attacking players are when the shackles are off. There are no worries there

The defence is the issue, with a high line its imperative we have pace in there. If we sign both of these I'm really optimistic of our Top 4 chances next year

3 decent CB's with a young lad with huge potential and Dier as a 2nd back up. Decent enough FB's which range from very (too) attacking to very solid on both sides. Things could look pretty rosey, pretty quickly.... but then, you know, Daniel COYS

We will 100% bring in one of VdV or Tapsoba. I literally have zero doubt about that. We are still trying to make the numbers work for Tapsoba and VdV is basically agreed. The one thing we need to be careful of is not pissing around too long and upsetting selling clubs whilst another club swoops in. I'm very calm.

I’m still hoping we get both as clear as day we need both of them.

VDV can also play left back so plenty of flexibility in how we use them, plus Romero wouldn’t be outright first choice at present so could be they both start over him.

Tanganga, Sanchez and Dier all need to go and I wouldn’t personally want Lenglet back to be honest.

Looks like we could get a fee for Sanchez, although Dier and Tanganga may be very hard to shift.

I honestly don’t get what we’re waiting for, with finalising this deal 🤷🏼‍♀️

Everything suggests it’s been 90% done for weeks & yet here we are still waiting 🤔
From my POV everything was agreed via intermediaries and agents and then Levy wanted to change the deal to spread the payments(same fee) out over a longer period than we had initially agreed to.

I have since heard(via another source) that this has been done intentionally to delay the deal as we explore other avenues, whilst keeping this one alive, and we will do the original deal if we have to. The second source isn't as close as the first one so not sure if it's true or not.

Having three good CBs means we have the flex to move to three at the back if we want, but also cover for the matches that Romero misses because he went through the back of Haaland.....on the halfway line....with the ball out of play. :cautious: :shifty:

I would much rather think we're trying to get this done over a longer stretch of payments in order to allow to get both him and Tapsoba. Like 6m a year over 5 years (length of contract) for example doesn't eat into the budget much. It should be more than doable.

Interesting strategy. Sounds like they have someone else (Tapsoba) we're more interested in.
Thanks for the insight

So you’ve not waded through the inane crap to get the nuggets of info? Lucky you.

Tapsoba seems to be our No1 choice, so we’re still trying to get that done. If we can’t, we’ll complete VdV. If we can, we may come back to VdV later on if we can shift some players out.

Edit: Trix gave actual info explaining why.

If we only bring in one we haven't really spent a great deal this summer. Would make for a very odd window.

Also wonder, based on the timing of the "slow down", if something else happened that made us re-evaluate our plan (Romero's return?). Trying to buy some extra time in case Romero wants to go, or something.

We need two new CBs. Our defence was *catastrophic* last season. Feels madness to me not to get this one done and then the next. We obviously want VDV and if someone else comes in we'll likely regret it.

Edit: downvote, @BobP?!

Still sounds a little risky with potential for all to fall down due to pissing people off

Tall enough to cope with the Prem's big boys and fast enough to cover the counter attack for our high press he's ideal for us.
I suspect we're just waiting for Ange to decide who he wants to bin off first before pulling the trigger.

Would still be around 100m.

Probably more than like 17 clubs in La Liga will spend combined and top 10 expenditure in Europe.

Not a massive splurge but still a solid window.

(I reckon we'll bring in 2 CBs anyway, just not both VdV and Tapsoba).

Surely VdV must be wise to what's going on. We're on thin ice with pissing him off too, aren't we?

Really hope we push for Tapsoba and VdV and see us recoup some of that back from Sanchez, Tanganga, Rodon and Reguillon and probably one midfield player too (most probably Ndombele)

Still think 2 good pacy CBs with high potential are needed

As said a week back or so, get one in and then try for the other. Better that than trying to be the smartest club in the room and missing out on both. Whatever, we just have to hope it pays off this time.

Levy: Apologies, are we ok to pay the £30M over a longer period of 6 years instead of 4?

Wolfsburg Chairman: Ok Mr Levy, we’ve had a talk and we’ve decided to accept your proposition.

Levy: Erm, can we make it 8 years?

WC: Mr Levy, we think this is very unfair but ok, you have your wish. 8 years it is.

Levy: *sweating* Errrr, can we pay the £30M over 30 million years?

WC: You’re waiting for Tapsoba aren’t you?

Levy: Nein.

WC: No?

Levy: No I mean, our offer is now 9M over 70 million years.

WC: Motherfuc…….

Levy: COYS, Daniel.
