Well considering the original question was talking about Americans, yeah, I guess you have a point. :cautious:
Apologies, as you hadn’t specified just Americans and listed a bunch of world famous athletes I assumed you considered her world famous too. My mistake ?

I use my mom (74) as a barometer. If she's heard of something/someone, then I think the large majority of people will know what it is.

She knows who all of those other people are. She does not know who Alex Morgan is.

My mum (76) was so excited when I told her about Bale she almost shat herself..... at least I think it was excitement, bless her

Of course you haven’t heard of Kobe, James or Serena. Such peripheral figures.
MJ is Michael Jordan. But Kobe and Serena- NO. I’m mostly interested in music and football. A limited interest in skiing. But generally no other sports.

I use my dog as a barometer. When I ask the dog if she knows Alex Morgan, she says fuck off.

Morgan is pretty big here in the states.. Big part of the country follows USWNT during world cups.. especially since the US Men's team are very unserious.

90% of Americans don't follow football - this is hardly a deal to convert a country to following the sport!

The point surely is that over 90% of Americans who follow the game will know who she is and will see she's signed for our club and may follow us to some extent. That's the marketing we care about.
That’s not my point, people were suggesting that her announcement is holding up Bale’s. It’s not, the American market for Women’s Club Soccer is nonexistent. Her announcement isn’t going to break regular news here.

I saw some posts that were true, 90% of Americans can’t find London on a map, 10% is 30 million etc.. the fact of the matter is, if I weren’t a Spurs fan I wouldn’t have known she signed, but the Konrad de La Fuente kid hasn’t even played a senior match for Barca and makes headlines.

Poor **** from Sky who has been outside the ground looks knackered

I actually quite like him too, he seemed genuinely excited to be in the story and not like the usual smug Sky lot like Swanson or Dharmesh.

On a serious note though I will only forgive this wankstain of a delay and our Johnson’s paint trophy-level of PR management if Gareth emerges with his 2013 haircut
Imagine if the delay is because they’ve been cutting his hair down and giving him a good cut throat wet shave.

Though I personally love a winger with a barnet out of a late 60s British rock band.

If Kobe wasn’t dead I’d probably only be able to tell you that he was a basketballer. No idea who he played for. Some people allow information like this to pass over them. It just doesn’t catch everyone’s interest. I’m the same with golf, snooker, darts, cricket and they get reported on in mainstream media in the UK.
