Our best hope now is a draw, stem the runs, get them all out for 400 and then make 350 (YEAH RIGHT) in return and hope there's some rain around.
As much as I don't like Root's captaincy, I'm glad he's handed out a few bollockings today.

Without wanting to sound fickle it looks like we are back to the sloppy old England again.
Wonder what's up with Archer - more likely to be an injury brought on by being over bowled at Headingly - if so well done Root, you clown. Some of those pundits have played the game before and know what they are talking about, and in the case of Michael Holding have been at the sharp end.

We'll chuck a load of wickets away again when we bat I suspect. All out for under 150 and will have to follow on. Lets just hope the decision to play a test match in Manchester in September comes to the rescue.

These last two days need to be the final nail in Root’s coffin as captain.

Pietersen and Flintoff were much worse, the worst thing about Root is how it effects his own game. I'm not sure Leach bowling a no ball and Roy and now Curran shelling Smith can really be Root's fault, and I'm no fan of his. As I said, he's actually been a better captain today than in the whole of the series so far in my opinion.

I genuinely cant fathom what has happened to Archer, he has literally lost 10mph since Lords, and it's nothing to do with being knackered, he could bowl 4 over spells at that pace and that would give us more than what he is currently. I know it's cold out there but he's spent most of his FC career so far bowling in the County Championship in April or September.

The batting deficiencies exist still, we just shuffled the pack a bit.
This has been a really poor days cricket, forgetting Smith for a second we've let Tim Paine find some form with the bat when he has been terrible with the bat for the majority of this series. Typical England.

As most of us know, Root’s not a very good captain, he talks a good captaincy but he really is crap at it. Stokes innings papered over the cracks and it really wouldn't surprise me if we lose this by an innings.

Most of us also know that Root is only captain because the other options were thinner on the ground than the hair on Levy's head. That hasn't really changed.
The catches going down is a real sign of the game though. When it's going well they hold them, most of this series on the other hand...

It's not my job to come up with another captain but there's always someone in the selector's minds, there has to be. Unless you seriously believe in the whole of English cricket, we can't come up with someone to captain the side.
There have always been other options for captain, this 'who else' business really isn't correct. It's a soundbite. They got it wrong its as simple as that, he's a poor captain and the job is ruining him because he's our best batsman and it's obviously become too much for him. Right now you could give the job to Buttler, Stokes or even Broad and it wouldn't be a surprise to see any of them make a better fist of it and Broad has the cricketing nous of a gnat. Not only that, but after a while you'd hope to see Root start playing well again which would be an enormous help to the team, there's no downside that I can see.

Bring back Vince and bat him at 11, he is an average Captain but he puts up with plenty of stick (about his captaincy at Hants) and would take the pressure off Root and the media would have a dead horse to beat every game as well.
