Tottenham transfer target Giovani Lo Celso trying to push through big-money move

Real Betis are ready to consider any deal worth £70m Giovani Lo Celso although Tottenham's initial offer is not quite near that

Real Betis midfielder Giovani Lo Celso is trying to force a big-money move to Tottenham .

Lo Celso’s representatives are confident they have reached an agreement that Real Betis will consider any deal worth £70m.

That is a significant breakthrough as Lo Celso has a release clause worth more than £80m and so far Tottenham have got nowhere near that figure.

Tottenham are believed to have had a bid of £62m - made up of £50m plus add-ons - rejected by Real Betis who must pay Paris Saint Germain a sell-on fee which is making the deal complicated.

They are still some distance apart but Real Betis know the player fancies a move to the Premier League with Tottenham.

Argentina midfielder Lo Celso, 23, is keen to link up with fellow countryman Mauricio Pochettino and a big money record-breaking deal would also be a significant show of intent.

All the right noises. You'd hope we could do a deal around £70m including add ons. To be fair the bid quoted here looks pretty damn good anyway when Jovic just went to Real for £52m.

P.s. Bet the gooner John Cross loves reporting on us bidding more for a single player than their whole summer transfer budget...

If we're already at £62m and the asking price is only £70m, you'd think this one would get across the line. As @journeyman says though, if Eriksen were to stay, would we still need Lo Celso given that Ndombele is surely the number one midfield target?

I think Ndombele is the one we need the most, but I just can't see us paying £140m on central midfielders if we're not selling Eriksen. Especially when we've got an equally pressing need for a right back, as well as arguably a forward player and a couple of youngsters.

The article was written by John Cross. Isn't he a bitter gooner?

I still cant comprehend Tottenham Hotspur potentially dropping the best part of £140m on two players. Madness. - No complaints mind.

If Real has decided against Eriksen though, surely good chance he stays now, perhaps signing a new contract with a hefty buy-out clause for Real or Barca.

In which case, do we still go for Lo Celso? Could we ship out Lamela to free up a space? Or do we focus instead on Ndombele?
If Eriksen stays we keep him get Lo Celso and Ndombele sorted no problem.

Haha I was just thinking the same thing.

It seems we're finally comfortable with out position as, effectively, a giant of European football and one of the most desirable clubs for players in the world.

How many days is it meant to be that reporters are behind the curve of a transfer deal? (if at all)

The idea Spurs are going to possibly spend this sort of cash, fuck a duck.

The squads at a position we all recognise is in need of fine details and that cost money. We've done absolutely brilliantly securing top 4 and the CL final but we still haven't got over the trophy line near yet so far away. I really hope the hurt from this season will inject and focus the mind for an assault next season on all fronts

This is all well and good but this player went for 22m only a little while ago. Where were our scouts and Poch then? We are seeminlgy always late to the party. N'Dombele is the other one.

When Poch refused to buy in the last two windows both the Argentinian and the Frenchman were much much cheaper!!

Now we are getting rogered for a princely sum.

How many similar players are out there now that we could get at reasonable prices before they break out and are the Lo Celsco and N'Dombele of next season or the season after? Or is our coaching set up so piss poor that the scouts can only spot the bleeding fucking obvious. Maybe they should spend some time indoors playing FIFA 19.

Fucks sake, 85% of this board have been talking about Tanguy for a year or more.

When I look at our youth set up and the crap coming up through there, I think it would be better if Levy went out and bought the scouting team from Betis, Ajax or Benefica. That would be a better transfer window then the last three put together.

Lo Celso went for 22m because of a permanent option as part of a loan deal.

JJ said Aulas wanted 75m for Ndombele last summer.

And who gives a fuck how much they cost? We've spent nothing since Jan 2018 and we still have people moaning.

Can't say I've watched much of him but from his clips he looks very left footed. Not another Lamela I hope in that when the ball is there to be struck/passed with the right he looks to shift it to his left?

So this applies to every club in the world other than those 3? what about when we signed Alli, did other teams look at us in the same way?
