Last season Liverpool were also rans and losing CL finalists. They had obvious areas that needed improvement so they bought in top quality for top money with no fucking about. Allison, VVD, Fabinho and Keita have given the depth and quality they needed to push City right to last knockings in the EPL and to lift the CL. We are in the same position this season - we all know what needs to happen.

I think the response on SC the morning after the night before, has actually been fairly reasonable.

I'll give you the "irrational" transfer talk though
As it happens I'm very optimistic but I just feel like moaning for a few days, sweet mysery and all that.
I am pretty confident that by the time we kick off next season we'll have at least four cracking new players, the ones Pochottino really wants and maybe a couple more for the future.
Pochottino is finished with the way things have been up until now but that has changed, especially after last night, and he is thinking on a higher level altogether, I think the club will support him in that.

QUOTE]

Is Hugo one of the best 5 keeps in the world No... But i think there aren't that many keepers out there who you could replace him with that are better unless you spend 60m plus which Liverpool needed to do. At the moment I think our priorities are elsewhere in the team but that doesn't mean if something comes available we shouldn't look at it.

My issue is with how negative our team is by the amount of times we pass the ball back to him around the halfway line. We need to be braver in our passing instead of taking the easy option. It reminds me of the story Rio tells about his first training session at Utd and he took the easy option. Roy Keane ran straight over to him and screamed in his face "you don't not take the f... Easy option at Manchester Utd" and in my opinion that is what Klopp has instilled into Liverpool and we need to instill into our group of players.

I keep defending Hugo but now I feel he needs to move on.
But as you say, who?
The money they want is prohibitive.

Now we need to quickly get our targets in and give them all a proper pre season. We cant have signings that we cant use properly for 6 months (like we did with Lucas).

We also need to use yesterday as a place of where we want to be on a regular occasion and not get too excited by just being a part of it. This shouldn't be 'once in a lifetime'. Liverpool didn't see it as that last season. Our mentality has to change and although I've said it for a few years that it wasn't essential. We need a trophy next season.

Yep, definitely irrational ;)

Seriously though, I'd probably agree with you; things have changed for the better at our club over the last 5 years and we're now in the next tier up of clubs that consistently compete in the CL.

Poch and Levy must see this, so along with our improved infrastructure and higher revenues, you'd think that we'll go out and spend a few quid.

People will and have just say need more players, but the reality is this isn't a team that has learned it's lessons and doesn't focus on some of the finer details and still has a way to go to set truly winning standards.

These are professional footballers, how many times in life, including in the run up to this game, will they have had the talk about being switched on from the first minute. The importance of winning your battle, laying an early marker, coming out from the off and being ready to go at the right intensity.

What we saw in the first thirty seconds was five or six consecutive actions where we didn't start well. Mainly players losing out in their individual duals, but we also had two players get in each others way, and one player having already switched off(!) and a bit out of position, before the daft penalty. Football is a game of fine margins, but have half a dozen consecutive actions where you're second best across the pitch and you will be under some pressure and then anything can happen. For it to happen in minute one was incredibly disappointing.

I just struggle to see that happening in championship pedigree teams. Big characters (eg. Roy Keane already mentioned), big leaders, big teams striving for perfection just wouldn't stand for it and get caught cold like that. I don't care if people scoff at it, this team can scrap better than any Spurs team I have seen but we're still really lax and naïve in certain, smaller, often overlooked aspects of the game - which can still add up and get you across the line and be the difference - and these often come to the fore at key moments/big games.

We need more leadership and as a group for them to set even better standards and stamp it out. Play smarter, for longer, and strive for perfection in everything they do.

I am of the belief you learn more from losing games like these than winning. The hurt Poch and the players will feel this morning will carry into next season. Much like Liverpool after last year. This group has always struck me as being hungry to silence the doubters. Okay, it doesn't happen as much as we would like. But we were not totally outplayed last night. With the right investment we will be back up there.

Nothing but pride. Few players aren't up to it and time for them to move on. Hopefully we strengthen and move forwards and do it again next year!

Personally I’m off downstairs for breakfast before I checkout of hotel 2 to take flight 3 to hotel 3 for night 3 before day 4 and flight 4 and then I can decide what I do next.

Just wanna go home.

How did this go for u Rigg?

My dad snored like a pig. I hit him on the head and he still wouldn’t wake up. My brother fucked off at about 03:00 because he couldn’t take it anymore.

So ye, great.

The fact that Alderweireld is probably going to leave tells you everything you need to know about Joe Lewis and Daniel Levy's ambition.

If we want to become Champions of Europe, you don't let players like that leave.

The fucking excuses that we can't afford them is a load of bollocks. We're one of the richest clubs in the world.

He doesn’t want to spend the money though. He’d rather spend a billion quid on artwork rather than players.

I’m sure Levy would love to splash the cash but he’s not the one who holds the purse strings.

In reality, we got to the final far too early. I have no doubt that Poch and Levy’s long term plan at the start of the season would have said that we shouldn’t have been getting to CL finals for another 3-4 years.

It’s been a great experience in terms of showing us what we can achieve, and giving us valuable European final experience.

But this was never meant to be our night, or our year. I’m sure of it. It was a lucky and enjoyable fluke which will hopefully have many positive outcomes for years to come.

It’s also shown Pochettino which of his players turn up when it matters, and which don’t. I’ve seen nothing in the last 6 months to suggest the likes of Alli and Eriksen can’t be upgraded, and tonight solidified that for me. I’m sure Poch saw it too.

We’re good. We’re very good. But we’re a few years and a few hundred million quid away from really competing at the moment, and that’s fine.

From here we need to be brave. We need to be unafraid to let players go who have hit their ceiling, and be bold in the transfer market. It’s time to take risks and spend the big bucks when we need to, and be aware that some big money players won’t come good.

We need to meet the asking prices for players like Ndombele, Lo Celso, De Ligt and not have a repeat of the absolute shambles which was the Grealish saga last summer.

The future is very bright but this summer is the most crucial in our history. Levy has to get this right. It’s non-negotiable now. If we don’t, Pool and City will get too far ahead to ever be caught.

As for us fans, we just need to buckle in and enjoy the ride.

It was that line that jumped out at me.

It was like we were still acting like little-old 6th placed Europa League Tottenham, in their quaint 36'000 seater stadium, who enjoy a cup run now and again.

But the reality is we've found ourselves thrust into the elite-level of the game this season and we're learning pretty quickly that there's no room for error; on the pitch or off the pitch.

Hopefully this is a wake-up call and we strengthen this summer.
