I always like contrasting shirts/shorts to be honest. The 'all one colour' can be a bit too much sometimes. It's a shame we rarely do it with our chage strips. Actually looking back at our kit history the last time we did so was in the 2006-07 season.
I agree, except when it comes to shades. If the shirt is black or white, the pant's colour should match the shirt. Unfortunately we've been going with a white shirt + black pants combo when I'd much rather prefer a solid white uniform.

Quick question: why the fuck didn't they just make this exact kit, except in navy blue, with the black bits in white?

As I've said before, I would hazard a guess that the home is aimed at new fans - the Asia and Americas. Hence mandarin style, lots of colour and brashness, with some Bill Nicholson bumpf thrown in to try and not lose the core too much. AIA would always be red on main kit as that's their company colour (it's also Under Armour's, for the record).

The second kit I think is aimed at young market. Black does well with teens, could be worn with jeans outside a pub without too much attention (although our frankly amazing training/leisure gear is better - love that polo Holtby's been wearing) or down the five-a-side equally.

The third is a classic for the fans. Clean, muted sponsor, recalls old kits we remember.

As a commercial strategy, I'd say it's well rounded

Someone on twitter just mocked this up in photoshop. 3rd kit design on the home shirt. Looks great!

Bu2ue47CQAEza4r.jpg:large

I would've bought that straight away. This home shite- er- shirt I wouldn't even dream of purchasing.

I cannot believe how badly they fucked up the 1st and 2nd kits- all they would've had to do was do the EXACT SAME TEMPLATE as the beautiful 3rd kit, just white-with-navy home (i.e., the pic above) and navy-with-white away. In fact, can someone please mock up a navy-and-white (away) version of what could've been our 2nd kit, just so I/we could see it? Thanks in advance...

The sad thing about the kit(s) this year is how easy it would've been to make nice ones. The pic above (home shirt) is fucking gorgeous- and an away reversed version would be incredible as well. If they'd done that we would've had three stunning looks. Instead they fuck around and do the too-many-cooks thing with the home kit- i.e., a miss-mash design trying to please literally everyone (whilst pleasing pretty much no one), and then they go and do the same thing with the away kit, splashing thin, pointy rods onto what otherwise would've been a beautiful shirt! It's as if they purposely tried to ruin them!

Our third kit is lovely design-wise, but I just can't bring myself to wear yellow when it comes to Spurs. Yeah yeah- it's in our history blah blah blah-- the color just doesn't say Tottenham to me. But it looks awesome! I'm just conservative when it comes to Spurs; Tottenham, to me, is white and navy blue end of story.

I have to say one thing-- the AIA isn't as bad as I thought. When I first saw the logo I wanted to scream, but it's grown on me. Honestly, if the club had done the versions discussed above I would literally own two shirts right now. I would LOVE to wear that one pictured on Eunice; that is everything I like in a Tottenham shirt looks-wise. But unfortunately the home kit, aside from everything else it gets wrong, has the logo in red, which looks awful. I hope that in the future the UA/Spurs/AIA triumvirate will see their way towards making kits with the logo in either navy blue or white- since it looks so much nicer than the square-peg-in-round-hole approach they currently insist on as far as the home kit goes...

Dude, thanks again for sharing this mock-up home shirt. I looked at it once more and this time actually got a semi. It just looks so fucking beautiful; to me, it's perfect.

Also, Kaboul looks incredibly sexy in it...so much so that I found myself imagining- well- him and I, alone, discussing the kit after a match, just the two of us- in the locker room. Everybody's gone because it's late- but he's stayed behind to talk with me about shirt design. Of course obviously he'd be changing out of that shirt, which would naturally be all hot and sweaty from him just having played hard in it- for the last few hours bumping up against all those other athletic, trim young men who play in the Premiership...

...What?!? WTF?!?

Why are you smirking like that?!?

I'm not gay or anything-- I just really like the shirt, that's all! Why are you looking like that?!? I'm totally into girls- I just happen to really like how that Photoshop version looks on one of our players!!! Jesus- I like to think of realistic situations- so sue me!

In fact you know what? FINE!! I won't even bother telling you people about this other imaginary scenario I thought up involving Lamela, Holtby, the steam room and the mock-up (navy and white) away kit. I'll just save it for people who might actually appreciate my fine taste in fashion...I don't know why I even waste my time on you brutes...

No matter how I try I really can't like the home shirt. But I quite like the home tracksuit top... so much so I picked one up in Soccer Scene for £47

Am I the only one who prefers the sponsor in red over navy on the home?

Doesn't have to be red, just don't think navy works.

Hahaaa what a fantastic post! As suggested by someone replying to the original just buy the third kit, a bucket and some bleach.

I look forward to reading more from you.

I agree with you, just doesn't stand out. Looks better with the logo in a different colour

I think this looks better (excuse poor Photoshop)...

Bu2ue47_CQAEza4r.jpg

The sponsor is the first thing you see though. Good for the company, but I don't want our shirt to be about some company. Should try and make the sponsor as subtle as possible

If the kit is white and navy the sponsor needs to be in a third colour. Like last year as well for example. That the HP logo was a different blue made the shirt look much better.

We'll have to beg to differ then. Personally, I think the sponsor last year stopped the shirt from being great, and it's the same problem Man Utd have this year. Sponsors are wrecking way too many shirts nowa days (see Swansea). If the sponsor is the first thing you notice then chances are it's not a nice looking shirt. Great for the companies though and good the clubs $$$

Yes we should try and make the logo of a company that's spent millions with us "subtle"

I think you're missing the point of what these guys pay for

"Guys here's £19m. Can you make sure no one notices us please?"

Thanks. Three people gave me WTFs, seemingly not getting it at all. I like to laugh at myself, because the truth is I AM a big-'ol drama queen when it comes to our kit- and I hate this year's version (with the exception of the third shirt, which I quite like, but won't buy). I've seen mock-ups on here that were 1000X better than our real home and away shirts, which is just so sad and ridiculous...

Spurs do this a lot- they monkey/tinker/continue to add onto a classic look, thereby rendering the finished product garbage. I swear someone on the design team lets his nine-year-old daughter design our kit with MS Paint- and then everyone says "awww...how cute."

Problem is, then they actually go for it.
