Seriously guys? Less than 10 posts ago I asked that you keep this thread on topic, specifically by stopping posting your twitter ids to JJ and we've already had 2 people ignore it.

Things are a mess at the minute but rather than help it seems some people are intent on making things even worse.

Any top class player will cost us about the same in wages as Ade would so the wage argument doesn't really hold up. Damiao, Falcao etc would cost the same per week plus an extra 15-25 mil in transfer fee. Plus they'd have no proven record in the Prem. Ade for 5 mil is a no brainer.

Plus neither Falcao or Damaio have any intention of signing for us!

adebayor is great deal for us. really well played levy but we need competition for him and i mean serious competition to keep him on his toes.. defoe or kane is no challenge to his place and he knows and everyone knows it.

The funny thing about Oscar is that, despite a lot of positive ITK, he really didn't seem that bothered about us when he was asked in the press conference the other day. Damiao has always been the same.

You'd think that Sandro could twist their arms a bit more!!

Perhaps there is another player we are down the line with that no one has picked up on. I'd love that! :)

I think if AVB had his own man for the position he would have been announced same time as the other two chaps who he did bring in.

The fact RDM was his Ass Man at Chelsea kind of suggests he doesn't have his own assistant anymore! So, who will he have in mind?
Have the other 2 been officially announced?

deleted tweet was AVB saying his dream striker plays in Germany. Some journo asked him, but got deleted very fast.

edit: seems wierd he would say something like that so might just be fake or even made up, who knows.

not really. he said we've contacted his agent but he's just concentrating on internacional, unless you were expecting him to start dancing whilst singing come on you spurs? what i don't get is how the player himself has acknowledged our interest but jj is saying no ... (n)

I REALLY don't think you can evaluate the value of players in that way. 5 million is a complete bargain for Ade based on what we could realistically sell him for in a years time, remember what we sold crouch for. Wages have to be kept separate all together imo, it's more a maintenance cost rather than the cost of purchasing an asset if that analogy makes it any more sense? And even if you do take wages into account, he's not going to be that much more over four years than say an Andy Carroll.... He has to be considered a bargain at 5 million... Has to be.

Are you saying that wages are not a factor in a club's purchasing decision making process? Is it just the transfer fee that DL looks at?

I don't mean to sound patronising, but businesses don't look at things in that way, in fact the individual consumer doesn't either. When you buy a mobile phone on a two-year contract do you look at the upfront cost of the device or the monthly fee, or both?

All I'm saying is that as things stand, regardless of whether the transfer fee is cheap or not, he cannot be considered a bargain yet. our financial model has needed to be modified somewhat in order to cater for Adebayor. That's a big deal. He's on massive money, and we're buying him knowing that our chances of getting a good financial return for him in 3 or 4 years will been diminished.

If we have a time machine and go forward a few years and he's scored 20 goals every year and helped us achieve success than fair enough, bargain. But you can't just look at the transfer fee now and assume it's a no brainer. Our club will not be taking this decision lightly imo.

But if it was as far down the line as some of the ITK suggests, I reckon he might have said a little more, something along the lines of "I'd like to play in England, but for now I'm concentrating on Inter" He just didn't seem bothered, which makes me think this might end up being another Leandro Damiao situation...

I don't want to go off track too much, so I'll make one post in answer to everyone that has quoted me.

Adebayor is a good player. He did well last year. I would be happy if we were to sign him (along with another prospect).

However:

- somebody who is currently on 100-150k (depending on who you believe) is not cheap, regardless of whether the transfer fee is low. We're apparently having to make exceptions for him with regards to wage limit.
- the ability to recoup any significant amount of the c.£30m investment is diminished by the lack of re-sale value for a player that will likely be the wrong side of thirty
- when people are using phrases like "bargain", "no-brainer" etc they make it sound as if the club should / will take this decision lightly or that this is an easy decision. I'm pretty sure our chairman doesn't think in the same way when evaluating such a big investment
- to everybody saying that the outlay is justified now if he scores 20+ a season and wins us things: how many times has a scored 20+ goals in a season? How many titles has he won to date?

There are risks involved, so I don't buy the fact that this is a "bargain".

To call it a bargain you have to have something to compare the tranfer with. Man City payed over £20m for Ade a few years ago and gave him £170k per week. If we get him for £5m and put him on £100k then that sounds like a bargain to me (although it's still a lot of money).

Let Levy worry about the details!

yes

"Andre brings with him two members of his coaching staff - First Team fitness coach Jose Mario Rocha and Daniel Sousa, head of opposition scouting."
Excellent! I wonder if they will give the players baby food like Ramos and the boys :)
