Probably best for us and him if he goes and gets a different experience elsewhere next season.

One thing I would say is that he’s been very unlucky since taking over.

Man.U game we had chances to win that which would’ve been an incredible turnaround.

Liverpool game nearly an incredible turnaround draw until Lucas gave them a goal on a plate.

Solid 1-0 win against an in-form Palace side

Poor team performance against Villa.

1-0 up and completely dominating vs Brentford in the first half, also had 2 cleared off the line and one Son shot blocked that was going in so could’ve been 3/4-0 up!!! Then our defence crapped the bed as usual but even then Richy had 2 great chances and Raya made 2 incredible saves at 1-2, then they go on to score a 3rd because Skipp can’t control the ball.

In another universe we beat man.u, draw against Liverpool and are 2/3-0 up at HT today and go on to win and we are comfortably going to finish in a EL place.

Fine margins in football sometimes.

Huge credit for the way he’s turned this team around, let’s not forget we let in 5 in 20 mins vs Newcastle and we were often 2-0 down at HT to teams, today we went in 1-0 up and we finished the game with 60+% possession 22 shots, 8on target, 8 corners and an xg of nearly 2, if it wasn’t for Ben Davies not knowing how to defend or have any pace and Oliver Skipp not being capable of controlling the ball we get a beautiful performance and win today.

Anyways I know he’s not the right option to take the job full time but I really think the job he’s done since he took over an incredible mess is actually being very underrated, full credit to him and his staff.

In other words, you like the gu….. errrm never mind, we’ve done this dance before😜

Jokes aside, I don’t share your positivity about Mason. I think it was completely the wrong thing to do to give it to him and I lay that blame squarely at the door of Levy.

Personally, when I look at it objectively, I don’t think Mason has performed particularly well, with his tactical performance being around par overall (bit naiive but showed some good endeavour at times).

I hope we do not do the cowardly and unfair thing and foist Mason on the next coach. I don’t want him kept on as some kind of cultural ambassador to help the next manager “get” the club….we have JD, Ledley and others who can help the next manager do that.

Let Mason go to League 1 or 2 and start his career as a manager. Will be great to see him progress over time.

Several of our old boys have done okay going that route (Carrick, McKenna, etc.)

Sack him. We can still qualify for the Conference. Gotta laugh, West Ham reach the final and we didn't even make it out of the group stage

I feel for him, he loves the club but has no experience at this (or any other) level. Our club is run by non football people, how on earth can we have mangers like Mourinho and Conte and can't do anything with the squads. Yet they both walked into Chelsea and won the league in their first seasons. Look at us now, Conte was right, players are playing for themselves and not the fans/club. Kane will probably fuck of, to Chelsea as Poch is there. Our club is nearly dead and I fear for us next season.

I’ll have whatever you’re on. His in game management especially subs were shambolic, we barely had a touch in their box til the desperate finale.

Needs pastures new.

Yesterdays line up (due to apparent injuries) did look like it was just to showcase some players for selling or to the new manager. Proper end of season feel.

Not to spoil the positivity but how many goals have we conceded in his games? 1 clean sheet and I think about 7 or 8 goals it hasnt been great. Newcastle was also an erratic result we weren't great before but never that is bad.

Impossible to make any meaningful judgement about Mason as a coach after a handful of games at the end of a fucked up season.

But this thread demonstrates why he shouldn’t be made permanent. The fans would cut him zero slack. Whoever comes into the job is going to need plenty of banked credit to see him through the tough times to come.
Yeah exactly. Wouldn't be surprised if some of the posters shitting on him now were calling for him to be given the job a month ago.

It's very hard to judge him properly based on this mess of a situation but it was always way, way too big of a job to consider giving someone with such little experience or any kind of track record to justify it.

If we were seeing these types of performances at the start of next season with him in charge there would be people asking for him to be sacked Nuno-style within weeks. And knowing Levy, that's exactly what would've happened.

What a weird comment / take.

We were at rock bottom when Mason took over having just broken a record for letting in 5 goals in the first 25 mins of a PL match.

We went from that to drawing against Man.U and nearly getting a great comeback draw away to Liverpool, beating an inform Palace side, losing away to a very in form Villa side and then playing one of the best 45 mins of football all season against Brentford but couldn’t sustain it.

As I said it’s not the right time for Mason but respect for the job he’s done with so little prep time and taking on a squad who’s form and confidence is rock bottom.

If you don’t think he deserves credit then sorry but you clearly don’t understand football and the difficulty of the job and situation and circumstance he took on.

To answer your Q:
Mason’s 5 games

GF 8
GA 11

Previous 5

GF 9
GA 15

Masons matches have also included 3 games against the top 7, 2 of which being away.

As I said not the right time for him to take the job but let’s give him some respect for the job he’s done in extremely difficult circumstances with basically no time to prep the team for the first 3 matches he took over!

As Jose would say… “respect, respect, respect”

That Newcastle result was a freak though and almost got repeated in Liverpool. We werent great before but we were competing before Conte left. We've been very similar to Sherwood's reign this time

Mason came into a no win situation. Fans wanted proactive football instead of the low block, no possession, counter style Conte brought in.

Within three weeks we got a proactive stylec that produced plenty of chances before what looked like fatigue and a lack of pace did us in.

I really enjoyed the first half with the very different movement we saw up front. Fun to bea Spurs fun again. The issue is we do not have the pace or the fitness to play this all match.

Not saying it should be at Spurs yet, but I want to see what Mason does with his own team. Think he has the goods.

I think the Brentford result was very poor, but the results v Man U, Liverpool, Palace and Villa were probably no worse than we would have fared with Conte.

We have some evidence, too: we already lost to Man U, Liverpool and Aston Villa under Conte this season.

Pretty sure we wouldn't have had the Newcastle result or been 3-0 down in 15 minutes against Liverpool with Conte. Either way mason hasn't done anything of note with this squad.

That's no discredit to him he's young and these players are like to phone it in the first opportunity they get. Mason is just Sherwood mark 2. Initial reaction but tactically naive and that's fair enough.

But that's a debate for another thread.....

I really hope that Mason can make it as a head coach. Obviously it won't be here and I really do think that even though it's likely he will be presented with the opportunity to continue as part of the backroom staff under the next coach, it would be great to see him continue his experience elsewhere.
