Our opposite stances over Bale and Suarez

We took the right financial decision. They took the right footballing decision.

We are a business. They are a football club.

Discuss.

I am not so sure.

It is the obvious answer, but I feel the problems are more subtle and run deeper.

Im of the opinion that its 80% of the reason.

Goals are so important in prem football. Suarez/Bale are 2 of only a handful of players that can score a goal from nothing. These players totally change games.

We have struggled to score whereas they are scoring for fun. Suarez has scored more goals on his own than half the prem teams have from their whole squad.

Massive massive impact.

The difference? They progressed slowly in a footballing sense under a manager who has been able to translate his ideas onto the pitch. Ours was incapable and lacked the experience.

Good point.

How well do you think Pool would be doing if you swapped Suarez for Soldado?

That have had a good part of their team playing together for a few seasons where as the players we play have been brought in over the last 2 seasons.

Also guessing that their team has a lot more premiership experience that ours.

Whilst it sounds romantic, if Liverpool had received an £85mil bid for him, He'd be living in Madrid within the hour

Apples and oranges

We got offered £86m for Bale
They got offered £40m for Suarez

Anyone who thinks they wouldn't have flogged little Luis if they had received an £86m offer from Real is off their rocker

I reckon if we had kept Bale, and in doing so not signed the players we did, the difference would still be there,

We would be looking at a team that is playing well, for each other and with fluidity featuring a world class player as its focal point, against a team struggling in defence and attack and looking at a world class player to carry them over the line in games with moment of individual brilliance

Well seeing as Liverpool's win percentage is actually better when Suarez is out of the team, probably about the same? It's the system that works for them. Their midfield of Henderson, Allen and Lucas is nowhere near as talented as ours individually, but they all know their roles and trust the manager's tactics. We couldn't get the system right. Bale couldn't go on saving our skins forever. The system is flawed and with the right system, all our buys in the summer will come good, I'm sure of it. One reason to be optimistic.

So how did we finish ahead of them last season with a record points total in the prem?

We were better than them last season when their squad was pretty much the same as it is now.

He didn't need to. The offer was on the table. Also, the lad has a bit more about him. Suarez is a cad.

I agree.

Just debunking the notion that Suarez was happy to stay while we were forced to sell Bale as he was throwing such a public strop. In reality the roles were reversed.

Is our squad different?

Obviously.

However the notion put forward was that had we kept Bale, our current predicament relative to theirs would have been the same.

I am simply saying that in the case study of last season, that was not the case at all and in fact we were better than them.

(All this as Suarez absolutely murders Cardiff..)
