Of all update from AG, one that got my interest was Brereton Diaz. I have him on my transfer wishlist thread as favored option-His Chile backstory is great. There is a 15 min YouTube video of it , if interested look it up. His Chile move really gave him the belief & strength to him. His finishing is really good and can also play as support striker or in wing. He is in PFA Championship team of the year , along with Spence. He will be picked up by a PL team this window, hope it’s us.

It’s a great story. I used to live in Chile, they are mad for him over there. Purely for that, I’m in favor of this ??

He’s not half bad either, only 23 years old, he scored 22 goals last season the championship. It’s not a bad shout.

i remember watching Brereton, as he was known then, dominate woolwich in the FA cup a few years ago when he was at i wanna say Forest or Blackburn maybe (edit: LOL just checked and they're the only 2 clubs he's played for). Don't know why that random game sticks in my mind but it does so for that alone i want him

Thanks for the tip on the brereton Diaz YouTube story. Know nothing about him but good to see those kinds of stories. Similar to a vardy in the sense that little was expected and a few changes in club (in this case country) can unlock the massive potential - maybe similar with Kane and Bale too looking closer to home. As for signing, I can’t add much but the trajectory looks good but may be a step too far for a player that probably needs to be playing week in week out. Looks like a Brighton type signing for me

I'm a fan of Brereton, love the story, loved him on football manager 2018 and think he is quite a decent player who has finally added goals to his game.

Having said that, I am far from convinced that he is good enough, and he started last season in electric form didn't consistently perform to that level all season, probably costing Blackburn the play offs. So not sure about it at all.

He didnt cost Blackburn playoff - far from it. They were 3rd in Jan. He had 20 goals in 24 championship game...then he had a ankle injury -out for 1.5 months -during which they lost their way.
He is home grown and could be available for 15m. Personally, I feel its better to have homegrown 2nd striker in squad than punting on another young player from foreign leagues. Anyway, lets wait & see on Paratici plans

Have to agree. I don't think he's good enough. The golden days of Chilaen footballer are over. We're unlikely to get more than 1 or 2 good players per generation from now on. And he's not one of them.

Absolutely chuffed we’re picking up Bissouma. One of those signings that makes so much sense you almost expect to not happen. What a fantastic start this has been.

Not sure if he is echoing Ally Gold, but PO has now mentioned keeping an eye on Brereton.

I'd imagine Richarlison or go for Brereton plus a natural winger like Antony/Raphinha?

Can we really consider Brereton Diaz as being in any way indicative of “Chilean football”?

He was born in Stoke, came through the youth system at Manchester United, eventually broke through at Forest.

Sure, he plays for the Chile national team on a technicality through his heritage, but he only got called up to their national side 13 months ago following a social media campaign by fans. Prior to that he represented England at U19 and U20.

He’s never played for a Chilean team at any level, didn’t grow up there, wasn’t born there, and doesn’t even speak Spanish. He didn’t even use the name Diaz until last summer.

What did he call himself before Diaz? Smith?
