Have another thread.

Go read the OP of the last one, go read the rules, this counts as your warning. Do it, don't do it, meh. Either way we work on the assumption that you did read them so it's best you actually do :D

Today, 4th June 2022, the BBC gossip column says............

Tottenham forward and England captain Harry Kane, 28, could now sign a new deal to stay at the club.

Tottenham's Netherlands winger Steven Bergwijn, 24, is wanted by Ajax who are ready to offer the former PSV Eindhoven player a contract until 2027.

Spurs will demand £21.4m for Bergwijn, while Manchester United could also be interested as new manager Erik ten Hag was at Ajax when their interest in Bergwijn began.

Tottenham and Chelsea are competing to sign RB Leipzig and Croatia defender Josko Gvardiol, 20

And so far, that's all.

Bergwijn to United: Yeah, that’s going to be a no from me, dawg.
Why not

He is not going to improve them that much

That is a good thing

If they are going to spend more 130m on De Jong Timber & Berwijn..i am not in the least worried

Think I’d rather sell him to United than Ajax. We will get a higher fee from United.

Wasn’t part of his issue he couldn’t settle in this country?
One of Sancho's reasons for leaving Man City back in the day was that he was homesick away from London and he ended up in Germany so... I think those sorts of hurdles can easily be overcome. I'm sure playing for Ten Hag would be appealing to Bergwijn as well.

'could also be'

Suggest that they don't know if they even are. Just someone trying to add 1+1
Reports when Bergwijn was first link away was because of not settling, or wanted to move home.

Not sure moving to Manchester helps in any way.

please be a bidding war...please be a bidding war...
would be the only thing that makes this transfer palatable

also, when was the last time we have had a bidding war for a player we were willing to sell?

It's odd to me someone from Netherlands would struggle to settle here. He speaks great English and the culture really isn't that different when you compare with somewhere like Italy or Spain. If he just misses his family, fair.

Everybody is different. Someone you expect to have difficulty may settle and someone you expect to do so with ease struggles. He came in the January just before the lockdown. Don't think anyone realises how difficult that could have been for players in new countries when you're stuck and can't visit your family or have them visit for as long as it was.

Maybe it’s just the English language he’s struggling with? :sneaky:

If I recall from the spurs documentary bergwijn came over with his family living with him in an apartment didn't he? Would stand to reason that he's very close to his family who will now be back in Holland you'd guess.

And no CL football and will struggle to get into top 4 unless the Chavs implode

Ali gold in latest video mentions saint maximin from Newcastle, says Paratici really likes him and there’s talk of a release clause but he couldn’t confirm it, says it’s one to keep an eye on.

Been linked a fair bit aswell, maybe we can get a thread?

Class player, I would love him in our team. Be interested to see how Conte elevates him even further. If he does have a low release fee and he wants to move, then its a no brainer. I suspect the finances wouldn't be an issue but more about convincing the player to join, he seems fairly settled at Newcastle
