If we don't sign him this loan is going to go down as one of those "did that really happen?" deals where you have to go on Wikipedia to confirm it was even real. Like when Eto'o ended up at Everton.

So reading that he wants to see what Solomon and Sess can do before a decision is made.
Totally get that but I hope we’re not hedging our bets on two inexperienced perma crocks versus an experienced German international who has shown he can more than contribute to the team.

How do you get that from that statement? I think Sess will be done with us, I feel so sorry for the lad but I don't think there's anything he could between now and the transfer window to get a chance.

It’s the last paragraph where Ange said he still needs some clarity about what we've got here first.
To me that’s him saying he’s potentially got two new pairs of legs joining next season in Sess and Sol who are already in the payroll.
Just my interpretation though!👍

Why should we be relying on cheapo deals?
New here?

We are not spending "big" on any one player.

Scoring more goals should not be our top priority this summer. With limited funds - investing in a strong DM is more important than spending a lot of money on wingers and forwards.

If Ange thinks he can do better than Werner within the budget he is given - then, fair play, but I think we need to find depth, and allow players like Johnson to continue to develop, and bring in a true striker to challenge Richi, and let Son and Werner play on the left.

We are in a bit of a dilemma here, with Gil, Solomon and Sess all being injured for almost the whole season.

It sounds like Ange sees Werner as a short term loan only.

Not sure what kind of money we could get from Gil, Sess, Solomon, but sell all three, and possibly able to afford 40-60m on someone who can get round the back of the defence but with end product too.

Things change quite quickly with these young speedsters developing and then losing form. Sancho was pretty good v PSG tonight.

Not sure another loan would be possible, supposedly a few teams in Europe are looking at him if we decide to pass and his contract runs until 26 which would mean his value could decrease even further come next summer. Leipzig will 100% be looking for a sale this year. I think there is little chance he goes on loan again unless there is an obligation included.
Those reported wages are going to be a hurdle for many clubs looking at him.

He's still under contract next year?!?! In that case, try to sell him abroad. He's always getting injured here. Maybe a change of scenery to another league will help.

I always felt he was brought in for cover when Son went for the Asian Cup. if he manages to impress, then i am sure we would have made the signing. he did have a few good moments, but i don't think he did enough to "Earn his Spurs" during the past few months with us.

If money and squad size wasn't an issue, I would say he would provide depth to the squad, a backup option.

but I feel he has done enough to earn a move somewhere in Germany, or even stay in the EPL with a mid-tier team.

Well an xG over twice his actual goals scored kind of tells the story doesn't it?

Expected assists and assists I'm seeing different stats. He's 53rd and 65th percentile in those.

I don't think he's bad at all but starting to wonder if using 17 mil to make it permanent is a good idea. On the one hand we'll have a lot of games next season but on the other we need to be signing some really good players, not average, and we still have Solomon and Son in that position.
That is because the stats you are looking at is "Last 356 days" which includes his time at RBL.

@Trix was posting stats at his time here. He has dropped to 84th and 85th percentile respectively now though,

His audition has been long enough and I'm encouraged that Ange sounds like he'll pass on a permanent deal for him. He simply hasn't done enough and a return to his killer form before the Chelsea move simply won't materialise. His decision making is awry and affects his mentality when a chance comes his way. It's a huge shame, but it is bizarre and repetitive. Aside from missing gilt edged chances, he's not aggressive enough on the wing to really drive through on goal - he always looks avoidant of close contact with defenders when in possession.

There's no point being tempted by the price if he can't deliver what Ange wants. And while people rightly point to a couple of other players on the books who may not fill the position well either, there's no need to add a third person to that mix. We need better.

Ange is being diplomatic here.

He just doesnt want to say, he believes there's better options out there.

Definitely sounds like we're passing.

I was on the fence myself. Mid March, after Palace and Villa games I was thinking yes.

Then the Fulham game came and he missed that huge chance and he's been very indifferent.

I like him but passing is probably the way to go I think.

Cost of Werner seems to change weekly, latest from Romano states the buy option clause is worth 16 million euros that's £13.67 million pounds, his wages are on the high side but that looks to linked to his age think Perisic was even higher.
