He's absolutely fine. Is he VDV good? Of course not but then neither is Romero. Very few are.

Relax everyone.

Not sure I agree about Romero. Personally think he is about as elite as you get for a CB.

On Dragusin he looks to be a good player who has got straight in. Give him time and he will continue to grow. Nice to have Micky, Romero and Dragusin all at the same time. Feels like the depth thing people allude to

Details aside, that's the point. We have two insane CBs and one who after just a couple of appearances already looks more than good enough. All are young enough to improve further as well.

Jesus Christ.
Just caught up in the last few pages and when did the sunshine bus roll into town?
Some really fucking daft views on here and I honestly (stupidly) expected better. This isn't Twitter.

It's like some people never learn not to write players off after five fucking minutes.
Why do 'you' do that? Is it for "internet points" or some shit I don't understand?
Or are you just miserable ****s who like to hate everything, with no patience for anything?

VDV is a special player. You learn nothing about a player, any player, by making comparisons to him. Dragusin looks good to me. An upgrade on what we had, for sure.

He did well for a right footer on the left. Luton made it hard for him but he did well. I think he'd look better on the right.

I'm pretty sure at this point between here and twitter, some of the purple and gold lot are arsenal fans or influencers just doing it for clout or to wind people up.

It’s insane. Name me a squad in the league who has 3 cb’s of same standard. Probably city

This fanbase does it with every player if they don't set the world alight in the first minutes of their first game. He was fine v Villa, poor v Fulham (but so was the whole team) and was alright v Luton.

Maybe VDV has also raised the expectations and if he doesn't live up to that then people will crow about it.

Yeah just City really. Liverpool have one who is elite, and the others are solid. Arsenal their two main are very, very good. Many forget not every player in a squad is going to be elite/world class level. It just doesn't happen like that. It's not a FIFA game.

Our best team under Poch was with Alderweireld and Vertonghen, Sanchez was next in line. For me Dragusin looks a better fit than Sanchez, I'm certainly more comfortable seeing him receive the ball and he's quicker than I realised.

I'm sure it's getting worse now.
I know memory's pretty poor but Deki seemed to be the first player who was written off by a lot of folk after just 20 minutes.
There's always a section of the fan base that loves to pile on players but I'm sure it used to take a bit longer than it does now.

And it's not just voicing concerns, or criticising one aspect of a performance, it's going balls out with a "he's total shit" from the off.

It used to be universally agreed that it can take players up to a season to get used to a new team and league.
When did that suddenly get forgotten?

It's the overnight success I want it now generation and era I think. There is no patience or understanding of what goes in to a player, especially one who is new to the country and culture. Let alone one coming in to a new style of play under a new manager that is still being put in place.

Oh God...i don't want to be part of an Arsenal love in... but Arsenals CB options when all are fit can be from Gabriel, Saliba, Timber, White and Tomiyasu. That's a very, very decent selection.

It's a decent selection sure, but three of those are mostly used as RBs aren't they (White, Timber (injured so still debateable and Tomiyasu)? Saliba and Gabriel, begrudgingly have been a decent partnership. But if one or both were injured/suspended they'd struggle as beyond that I don't think they have much in actual CB depth. If one of those two had a VDV type injury I wonder how well they wold cope.

Saliba and Gabriel I would say are decent, but not proven elite like a Van Dijk.

We've been spoilt with Van de Ven, he's been here 6 months, only played for about 3 of them and is up there with King as one of our best centre backs of the past 3 decades.

Having Romero as well (also up there with King imo) means unless it's prime Maldini coming in then there is going to be a drop off.

He's 22, played 2 games in the PL, he is arguably playing on the wrong side and he is adapting to a different style of play. And still he has acquitted himself well. Huge potential here.

He has already showed his aerial prowess (something we have been lacking), looks fine on the ball to me and is a warrior. Already I'd start him ahead of Dier, Lenglet, Davies and Royal who have been our other options in the last few years. (Not much of a compliment, but still)

Just having a capable third choice centre back is a massive plus for us. Give the lad time.

I agree in the others you mention but I'd argue that both Saliba and Gabriel are more proven than vdV so far.
I think Mickey will overtake both of them but he's only been here for a short while.

I'm not saying VDV is elite, I meant if one of them had a long term hamstring injury how would they cope defensively. I think VDV, injuries permitting, will overtake them both. But for now they are as key for them as Romero and VDV are for us. Take one or both out and see how well they really do.
