He is a class act and a fantastic pro. Great to have around the squad and still a potent threat from the bench due to his delivery which is probably the best in the squad.

so glad he stayed this season.
clearly more suited to LW rather than LWB, especially in the prem, in Italy its a different game.
His crossing\passing is so much more dangerous, when he is played further up, without not having to worry defensively so much.
Plus as other have said, his professionalism\experience is invaluable.

I don't think he was ever better than Son, Maddison, Bentancur, Bissouma or Romero, so that would mean half our starting XI is too good for us.

Also, when we convinced Perisic to sign, we had prime Kane and a high-profile / successful manager.
I can't make direct comparisons ability-wise, because prime Perisic wasn't in PL. However his calibre is higher than those players'; he has won more titles in club football level and is a key player for Croatia, who has over-achieved in country-level.

Son and Romero are of a similar level I reckon. The rest are still emerging.

💯 very valuable player to have kept around also looks so much more comfortable at LW in this system rather than at LWB in slow block counter attack side.

I though he, along with Johnson and Richarlison, were game changers. His crossing was better than what had been offered by anyone else up until that point. It was just Sheffield United heads got onto it first.
It was and to be fair PEH, they came on just as we were looking out of ideas and trying to force things, chasing to game, they reset the system and we immediately looked more controlled again.

For me he is the best LW in the Ange system

That said I wouldn't start him

But he is coming off the bench every game in the final third, if I was manager

Can't wait to see him supplying crosses for Alegj Veliz and Richy to head in.

We're talking about individual ability, so team achievements are irrelevant. Ndombele winning a league title while on loan last season, despite not being good enough for our squad (let-alone too good for us), is a prime example of why this is the case. Lo Celso, Lamela & Foyth also won titles abroad, but were not "too good" for us either.

Perisic was a fringe player during his two seasons with Dortmund, so was far from integral to their Bundesliga & cup wins.
Six months later, he was then sold on to Wolfsburg (for a very modest fee), where he finally became a regular starter...but was out injured for two significant spells during their best league campaign (i.e. doesn't appear to have been a key player).
It wasn't until he moved to Inter, at the age of 28, that he actually became a really key player - but they didn't win anything during that period.
Perisic then won the Bundesliga & Champions League while on loan to Bayern (a strange decision by Inter), but was only a squad player.

I accept that Perisic has been a key player for Croatia for a very long time. However, do you really think he has made bigger contributions for Croatia than Son & Romero have made for their countries? Son has been South Korea's captain & top scorer for a long time now. Romero was a rock for Argentina during their World Cup and Copa America wins.

In Perisic's most prolific seasons in Serie A (2016-7 & 2017-18, aged 27-29), his goal & assist stats were on a par with Maddison's during the past two PL seasons, and only marginally better than Son managed last season (when Son was considered to have had a really poor season!).

Son has posted similar / better (sometimes far better) goal & assist stats to Perisic's best two seasons in each of the past seven seasons. We all know the PL is stronger than Serie A, so there's no question who the superior LW is.

If Maddison matches his goal & assist output of the last two seasons (he's 20% of the way there after only 5 games!), he will have performed at Perisic's peak level for a longer time than Perisic managed. If he ever better's his recent tallies, he will have outperformed peak Perisic.

Bentancur (very consistently for us) & Bissouma (at Brighton and now finally also for us) have both demonstrated that they're extremely good CMs who could compete for a starting spot for pretty much any team. Which current CMs from Inter, Dortmund, Bayern or Wolfsburg (Perisic's previous four clubs) would you rather have?
If you're not yet convinced they stack up to prime Perisic, I think you will be by the end of the season.

I consider the circa £50m that we paid for Romero to be a bargain. Serie A 'Defender of the Year' the season before we signed him, at the age of only 23. Perisic didn't win a single individual award during his 6 years in Italy (or his 5 years in Germany), despite being at his peak there.

I rate Perisic, but in his prime he would have been a good player for us (our current team or the team we had under Poch at the time), but not "too good" for us.

He’s absolutely perfect to come off the bench against tired legs. He is mentally razor sharp and has immense quality of delivery.

Conte showed his naivety in expecting him to be able to play a whole season (including CL) as a starting PL wing back at the age of 34. Thankfully Ange has his head screwed on and is using this very useful player in the perfect way. If he carries on like this we might even consider adding a year to his deal.

Great set piece delivery and really smart/quick play for our second goal with his lay off into Richarlison.

He's too slow to start in this team with the way we want to play, and if Son's up top the last thing we need is to pepper the box with crosses which is the main thing he brings to the table. But Saturday was the exact situation we need him for and i'm sure there'll be a few more of them over the season.

Ange has found the perfect role for him. I wasn't too fussed if we kept him tbh, but I'm really glad we did.

He had v good first season at Dortmund, but fell out with Klopp, I mean domestically he has won more than most of his squad which counts for a lot, also you forget to mention how big he was for Inter in the 2020/21 season when they won Serie A, for all of Sonnys accomplishments, his only ever won a Asian Cup, which is a under 23 tournament

I didn't realise that.

I mean domestically he has won more than most of his squad which counts for a lot,
That just shows he played for competitive teams. As I've pointed out, he wasn't one of the 2-3 star players for any of the title-winning teams that he played for (other than perhaps during his time in Belgium, which is a weak league).
If Messi had spent his career at Watford, he wouldn't have won any top-flight league titles or the Champions League, but that wouldn't have made him a worse player.

also you forget to mention how big he was for Inter in the 2020/21 season when they won Serie A
He only played 1800 minutes of that Serie A campaign, which means he was on the pitch less than 50% of the time. I believe he only started about 50% of their league games too.
He contributed 9 goals & assists, which is ok but nothing spectacular. For context, his team scored 89 league goals that season, so he was only involved in about 10% of them, which pales in comparison to the % of goals that any of Son, Maddison or Kane scored/assisted for their team in recent PL campaigns.
I'm only going by stats and didn't watch much of Inter that season, so perhaps I'm overlooking something (e.g. perhaps he was involved in the build-up of a huge proportion of their goals).

Devastated for him, as that will most likely be the end of his career.

He was such a good option off the bench and gave us another dimension in attack.

Time for Gil to show what he's made of now.
