As usual we lack consistency. Unlike with Nagelsman with didn’t get our denial out in time. Just to confirm. We were never interested in Slot. Or any other manager. We have no interest in talking to anybody or appointing anybody. We have no interest in football in fact. Nothing to see here.
PS Enjoy the extra night of Beyoncé!

At what point does our great footballing mastermind now consider doing whatever it takes to bring on board Nagelsmann or Gallardo?

The only scenario in which Slot could legitimately have been first choice is if he really wanted the job, and that's how it looked. It even made sense of the Nagelsmann statement, to reassure Slot that he is the one we want. It actually seemed like we were going about this the right way for once. But you only do that if you are sure you'll get your man.

To end up in this situation, however it happened, is absolutely beyond belief. We are a complete laughing stock. Levy's aura has been well and truly shattered, this notion that while we don't win anything at least Spurs are a very well run club. The reality is we are spiralling towards mediocrity, piloted by incompetent idiots with delusions of grandeur.

But it can still be salvaged. Nagelsmann is a remarkable manager. There is nothing that he can be demanding that should be preventing our literally begging for him to take the job. When are we going to stop ignoring what seasoned and incredibly successful managers are telling us over and over?

Or is our great footballing mastermind going to stick to his guns, to his unique vision which has brought us oh so much success on the field. While the dwindling pool of candidates willing to tow the line continues to evaporate, until we are left with...

Such a poorly run football club it’s incredible 😂
Only if you consider us as purely a football club. We're a raging success as an entertainment business. Even the shambles of situations such as the current one creates drama, which is entertaining. Ups and downs, intrigue, hope, etc. keep people interested.

It's chugging along quite well.

Obviously very disappointing news this am. I was well on the Slot train.
However it is occasions like this that make me really worried that the wee man makes a knee jerk snap decision now following the media reaction and that from all the fans this morning.

Yeah v.short sighted given how much we were happy to spaff on Jose and Conte's contracts.

As always with Levy, it's opportunity cost where he falls down. He'd rather save 5 million now but we'll end up paying god knows how much more more down the line when we end up backing then sacking a worse manager.

Imagine if City or Liverpool had turned their noses up at Klopp or Guardiola cos of the cost? If you truly believe in a manager you pay the money because they're the most important person at a club.

You think that, I think that but Levy doesn't think that.

That's not conjecture, he literally said in his Cambridge interview that "in England too much importance is placed on the managers".

For me, that was a revealing insight. Look at Klopp at Liverpool, Arteta at Arsenal or even Poch with us. The right manager can single handedly transform a club.

His comparison to clubs on the continent didn't hold weight as the clubs he's inevitably thinking about the the bigger clubs in those leagues who's squad talent is far superior to the rest of the league which renders the manager less important but that isn't applicable to us in the most competitive league in the world.

If the reason we are not getting Slot is really because of a buy-out clause then this stinks that we are going to end up with one of Rogers/Potter/Mason.

My pick from the start has been Ange - he would just be perfect for our current predicament. High octane, attacking 4-3-3 football and his teams tend to transform into this very quickly. He is just a genuinely great guy as well and would bring about an air of positivity and feel-good factor we have been missing for years.

"I want our supporters dreaming of big games and big wins and winning things. Thats the role of us as a football club. I'm sure they get enough of their bubble burst in their normal lives on a daily basis it doesnt need me to bring them down and tell them dont be too excited tomorrow." This sort of guy I want in charge of Spurs after a string of managers who constantly wanted to burst any fan optimism at the first opportunity.

So did we not want to cough up the compo or was Slot using our interest to get a nice new contract?

I still maintain we need to get a manager in who can get the fans and media on side as well as the players. As much as they seem to not want it, the club needs a feel good factor and we need a character to do that.

I like Ange too i think from a man management and motivation standpoint he would be a great fit and just the sort of no nonsense straight talker our team needs.

As an Australian I am biased, but Ange is a very very good coach. He is a hardarse, doesnt accept anything less than 100% and has always won or dragged really bad (such as the australian team) teams to over achieve. I suggest watching this mic'd up training session of him at celtic. He isnt attractive because he isnt from a "footballing" nation, but he knows his stuff. I wouldnt be opposed to him getting a chance.

Historically, the one thing we do spend pretty big on is managers. So unless there's something concrete, I'm not going with the lazy narrative of it being Levy not wanting to pay out.
I think this is a little bit off the mark. We don't historically pay big on managers. We've done it on 2 occasions and that was on 2 proven winners in Jose and Conte. It depends purely on the profile of manager. I'm not surprised we don't pay big on a more risky choice from Holland. I do agree though that if we really were convinced then money wouldn't be the main issue. I just think it won't be spent on someone who hasnt managed a top club. I could see us spend the money on Nagelsmann but not Slot for example.
