The (or my) dream is winks and sissoko out for one of Aouar, Kessie, McKennie. I think on paper our midfield would be stacked.

Dele/Ndombele - PEH/Skipp - GLC/Aouar - no excuses best players play.
Yeah but Ndombele doesn’t want to be here.

We need McKennie more than Aouar IMO [and Kessie the most].

I like that Nuno has elected our first choice midfield to be comprised of 3 physical midfielders with strong work rates, and I strongly believe Dele, Skipp, and Hojbjerg are the predominant reason we’ve kept two clean sheets against two strong attacking sides.

Lo Celso needs to step up and be the creative outlet we’re seeking or he needs to be sold as he offers significantly less protection than our other midfielders. With Aouar, while we may have a more natural ball progresser, we’ll certainly lose some steel in our midfield. The general understanding seems to be that Traore (if signed) can also drop in and be used as a ball progresser.

McKennie is more than capable of playing across the midfield 3 by all accounts which only Skipp and Hojbjerg are currently capable of doing effectively in the squad.
Mate we already have enough steel. Ndombele gone abs we have only
One actual creative!

I'd actually argue we don't have enough steel. We have two tough CMs and both are playing currently. If Skipp or Hojbjerg go down we are looking at

Ideally we need one more in the mould of McKennie/Kessie/Nandez and then someone like Aouar if Ndombele moves on.

Hopefully Lo Celso can kick on this season and become our main playmaker in the 8 role.

We also have Kane to reintegrate who is an advanced playmaker.

We have more steel than silk. We don’t just need a playmaker we need flair and the unpredictable. Someone with close dribbling ability and skill. Right now we are a lot of runners and harriers. But many Spurs fans want this in our DNA. Even our youth teams the skill full players never make it. It’s all the top good hardworking pros.

I would probably take him on the basis that I can’t see gio making it. I’d love to be proven wrong though.

Has Gil ever played more centrally?

Based on previous recruitment when it comes to midfielders and attackers from the french league, I must admit I'm a little worried about Aouar.

Capoue, Stambo, Njie, Nkodou and Ndombele is some list.

Maybe he will be the one to stop that trend?

That's the same across English football. You can't coach flair, vision, skill, even instinctive finishing. But you can coach the more mechanical/physical things like positioning, tackling etc.

Its also to do with winning or rather not losing. Flair players lose the ball. Play the way your facing types lose it less. A team full of athletic robots who play the percentages carries less risk.

This guy went from being one of the top midfield prospects on the globe to being a contingency signing for Tottenham in about a year. Brutal.

Why? They have publicaly said they want to sell him. They just need cash to replace him and until then he's their best player for the position regardless.
Generally. A player for sale and if close to moving wouldn’t play. Too much risk of getting injured.
Personally think that others maybe a priority.

Ruben Dias played for Benfica and then joined City the next day.

Deadline day is Tuesday, if we really want him I'm sure we can pull the trigger whenever.

You're right though, we're probably exploring other options first.

I’m sure there are exceptions, I did say generally. And if Lyons are that desperate for the cash, why risk him getting injured.
Roll on Tuesday.

Just made a nice chance for himself. Lyon are on the back foot in this game despite leading, but Aouar is popping up between the lines and gliding past players.

He is good at receiving the ball into feet or on the turn and then progressing it forwards, he’s played some good passes too.

Tbh, at the mooted prices I’d take a chance on him. We could have done with someone with some extra guile in the middle today, and he possesses qualities on that front
