Two players who's Spurs careers haven't taken off yet, Lewis Holtby; the bargain buy, the German u21 captain and our potential answer to our creativity woes, and 'Gylfi' the £8 million icelandic international who we snatched from the grasps of Liverpool. However after a couple of appearances with exciting potential, the German seemingly fell out of favour, he started finding himself more often than not on the bench. I must admit I was disappointed after watching a lot of games of him for Schalke where he looked the dogs bollocks in the number 10 role. AVB seemed to prefer Gylfi.

Gylfi Sigurdsson is a player I've tried to to keep faith in for a while, a very long while, this is mainly because of his great stint at Swansea and that he has been played out of position for us, as his preferred position is in the middle. To be fair to the lad he has been unlucky with various shots hitting the post and bar which if had gone in earlierha sooner than later, might have seen him play with a bit more confidence and fluidity for us. However after watching game after game hoping for a consistent good Gylfi Sigurdsson I've given up, this might sound harsh but the palace game did it for me. He just didn't look good enough, with the likes of paulinho and soldado, soldado didn't get any service from Gylfi at all, he also lacks pace and the tendency to fade out of games which we don't want from our 'creative player' as he meant to make things tick. If you asked me or many other fans if Gylfi Sigurdsson is good enough for a club challenging for the champions league, the answer would be No.

I really hope lewis gets given more game time as for me he has a fantastic potential, I may be being too harsh on sigurdsson but IMO i wouldn't have minded if Chelsea had came in and stole that deal instead.

I also love how Lewis is so passionate when he plays, even for the u21s I saw photos of him showing more desire than most first team players do, that attribute can be nothing but good for a team.

I think The Gylf will come good for us, he has a great shot on him but his diwnfall is his passing. Countless times he's needlessly given the ball to the opposition already this season. Holtby, none of us have seen that much of him in a Spurs, but what i have seen i haven't liked at all. A lot of passion and energy there but nothing to back it up, i hope he proves me wrong!

In the end i went with Gylf

In the games Holtby was actually played in his position he looked good. Against Norwich, Basel away, West Brom and Everton he looked good. Against West Ham he wasn't great even though in his correct position I'll admit, and he wasn't brilliant against Chelsea though he did set Ade off on his way for the goal and the team as a whole was fairly poor in the first half. Still, if we rule out the games where he was played out of position then I'd say he's looked good, and even the games where he wasn't great like Basel at home and Newcastle at home, he still had good moments. Young players are always inconsistent, sometimes you just have to look for if they have 'it', and if yes then hope that they can produce it more consistently - I would say Lewis certainly has something about him. For me Gylfi is still yet to show that. He's never really lit up one particular game the way Holtby did on his debut.

Both of these guys just need to settle down a bit. They are both anxious when they play and try too hard. Once they settle down they'll be great for us.

I think Lewis is probably the most exciting prospect or perhaps "unknown quantity" (in the sense that we haven't seen even close to his best) in our team right now. We've all seen what he can do for Schalke and Germany U21 but last season whenever he got a chance in our first team he was played on the wings where he didn't get the chance to make his impact on the game to the same effect he would have been able to if playing more centrally. He's got an excellent first touch and vision, and is one of few players in our team capably of really playing killer passes on the first touch.

I have a feeling he needs a run of games to build up his confidence before we get to see the best of him, but the way Sigurdsson has been playing lately I can't see why AVB wouldn't give Lewis a couple of games. I really like Sigurdsson and want him to succeed, but he really seems like a confidence player and would probably need to play week in and week out to come good for us. Hard to tell, really, but I hope one of them (the one AVB doesn't think is 1st team material at present) is going to be loaned out as I think both have bags of potential. I do think Lewis Holtby is the one we should keep for now though.

I think both are good players and I think both will come good. Holtby has been injured and I don'tknow why people are down on him and Gylfi is nowhere near as bad as people are saying.

Great first time passing? Excellent vision? Bags of potential? Trust we're talking about Tommy Carroll?

Seems a bit of a pointless comparison really.

I don't see AVB thinking these are his two options for that spot in behind Soldado.

Lewis is still adjusting to Premier League football and I don't think this should be underestimated - I am hopeful that Lewis plays to his potential as he has all too rare leadership qualities

More importantly though, Lewis' first touch is usually a pass, he wants to play high tempo and wants to be incisive

Both players' desperation to do well has probably been to their detriment so far, but I'd have to go with Lewis, as I find Gylfi's need to touch the ball several times and then chase it down hugely frustrating............

Both have something about them however

Well it depends if we sign a creative player, because it could come down to these two if transfer dealings don't go our way, I disagree that it is a pointless comparison because I can't see these two players want to be spending most of the time on bench and I think it will be interesting to see who avb utilises the most, or if loans out one of them.

Holtby definitely for me- i think he is going to be top notch but needs a good run of games in a settled position

Holtby by default. Mainly because he has not been given a run of games yet. Gylfi has had ample enough opportunities to prove his worth and disappoints the majority of the time.

Honestly don't know what type of player Holtby is quite yet as he has not been played consistently.
