Smallbone added a little more to us when he came on but we look so limited in the midfield.

Can't fault them for trying but the skill sets and precision stuff just isn't there.

But when you think about it the goals both came from our giving away a pen and that bloody header by Doherty

If Ireland lose this I think the FAI will pull the plug on Stephen Kenny, knee jerk / he has just about nothing to work with !
Was watching on RTE and Hamann was pretty scathing of him, wouldn't surprise me if he throws his hat in the ring to succeed Kenny if hes sacked. He even referred to Republic as "we" at one stage.

Would be a shame to see us revert to the old style of football should that happen. We’ve played some nice stuff, just need to persevere, for probably a generation. Maybe not with Kenny though.

I also noticed that not one player in midfield can take their ball with their back to the opposition goal and turn, every pass was backwards or sideways no matter what position of the field they were in.

Yeah 100%. We have to have continuity. Even championship sides are playing passing/possession football now. We don't need a return to long ball stuff. Knowing the FAI though, we'll end up getting Dyche.

I would take Dyche he plays some nice football at times.

I'll always wonder if Evan Ferguson was available would there have been a different outcome ?
I would say against those two teams, probably not. Making a direct comparison with Haaland, Norway don't fare any better against the bigger nations just by sticking Haaland up top because the rest of the team, and especially defence, just doesn't have the quality. I suspect it's the same with Ireland.

I was wondering the same watching the game last night and I really dont think it would, it felt like watching Spurs the past few seasons but without any goal threat, get to the box then rather than cross it start passing it backwards, really frustrating. Agreed with Brady last night, Duffy should have been launched up top for the last 10-15 mins had nothing to lose and the Dutch weren't great, keeper was ropey as hell.

There were some bright moments though, especially in the first half and I thought Knight had an excellent game. I agree with you and think Kenny will be cut loose after this campaign, no idea who is brought in though.

Might even get a win today!

Great showing from the away support! A large majority of the crowd is wearing green.

Kenny done, now official. His contract won’t be renewed. The idea was right, the execution catastrophic, results wise. The only saving grace I had was how difficult it’s become to watch the Ireland games in the UK. Where do we go from here. We have a generation of lads with a bit of talent but not enough heavyweights to drag them to success. And I’m not sure we have the resources to grind out a result with shite football anymore either. We need a miracle worker.

Yeah, I was behind his appointment and supported him to the end. But 6 competitive wins is just not good enough. As you said, a few decent young players, but can't see who we would bring in that's going to get us back to being even middle of Europe level.

This will probably go down like a ton of bricks but all of our relative success was built from solid foundations and being hard to beat.

I'd honestly look at someone like Sam Allardyce or similar, the football might not be the easiest to watch but when has it ever been?
