I can see Villa struggling on Thursday, that late goal against them will be crucial. Dortmund also pulled one back against Atleti, so are only a goal behind whilst playing at home tonight. I don't think the Liverpool tie is 100% done though, if any team can rally against the odds, it's Liverpool. If they get an early goal then it's game on. Arsenal v Bayern on a knife edge. I think City will go through, as well as Leverkusen.

4th or 5th would be a pretty decent result with all our changes. As for Europa or CL, I just want us to be in Europe and be genuinely competitive, not just making up the numbers to generate some cash.

3 wins.

Newcastle could win their remaining 6 matches. They are hitting some form and have no distractions. We saw last season how effective they can be with 1 game/week.
4 of their remaining games are away where they’re much weaker on the road, plus their injuries.
No way they win their last 6.

The Premier League still has a 57.8 per cent chance of claiming the bonus Champions League spot, according to Opta. However, those chances have been declining, plummeting 13 per cent from the previous matchday.

Over the last decade+ we have got further in the CL than the ropey.

I know, but in the past we've treated the Europa like the league cup and been caught out. I'd really like to see us have a proper go at it - one or two subs but not half a team etc.

Now obviously, if instead of that I have to watch us up against Real Madrid in the CL I'm sure I'll get over it!

We gave it a proper go under Jose.

Played our strongest 11.

Got bombed out by Zagreb while their manager was in prison.

Doing shite in the ropey has never been down to perceived effort levels.

Newcastle are not going on an 8 game winning run (which is what it'll be if they do).

They very recently drew at home to a shite Everton team

Under several managers we have put in worse performances in the EL than we were doing in the PL at the time. Effort, commitment, giving a shit, putting out a cohesive team - call it what you will. We have consistently struggled to beat teams we should comfortably get past and lost to those we should have beaten.

Having coaches and teams that are adept at knockout football is a huge contributor.

If we had Unai Emery as manger I'd be with you.

Our managers European record makes ours look illustrious.

Watched an interview with Anges biographer, and he said that Ange doesn't care that much about cups.

He wants a league title.

The worrying part about this 5th place stuff is that if Arsenal knock out Bayern tomorrow night, that will probably seal it for England. We will prob have 3 teams left and the Germans one . City will play Arsenal if both get through. That will guarantee 5 pts for England . Leverkusen can only get 5 max. Villa can get the extra pts to clinch it for England.
Still going to want Bayern to win though!

Looking at the fitures of both teams this morning and I would be pretty shocked if we manage to beat Villa to 4th, they have a much kinder run in. Think both teams will get 9 more points, which is obviously not good news for us.

Assuming with Dortmund winning its a killer for 5th too - Wopa it is

5th is still a decent season considering

We'll probably get memed for being the first team to finish 5th and miss out on the possible extra CL place (despite it being completely out of our hands), but in all honesty I'm 100% fine with EL.

Liverpool just lost at home to Palace, so nothing is a given in this league. The "kinder" run in could see them become complacent, along with Europe if they go through tomorrow. Whereas we know we have to step it up for the majority of our games starting with Arsenal. We do still have the game in hand as well.

I'm not saying we will 100% get 4th, more that it isn't over by any means.

I obviously want Champions League next season, but I won’t be as downbeat about Europa. I’m intrigued by the new setup. It should be winnable, especially when you consider CL teams don’t drop down. It’s just the money you get that might have a negative impact on the club.

I think it will still be in the balance by Thursday night. Dortmund was a shocker but we can still get plenty of points with City and Villa. Draw for West Ham would keep Leverkusen from max pts. Liverpool could win but would prob still go out.
If we are left with City and Villa versus their 3 teams it’s still in the balance. Would back City to win both v Bayern, same with Villa. Don’t see Dortmund or Bayern getting through so Leverkusen are their main pts gatherers.
no extra pts for winning one of the trophies so it’s just a matter of getting there.

We won’t have budgeted for champ lge so our targets prob won’t change.

Personally I'm more bothered about those behind us right now. I know we have a 10 point cushion but the last match was a bit of a shocker that we have to correct.
