Agree with people saying how crap this must be for Saints - we've had some depressing close seasons - but this is something else - we've lost star players in the past; they've just lost almost ALL their players....

95 was bad - Jurgen, Barmby and Popescu out, Chris Armstrong in... But still not close

Am I the only one feeling a bit gutted for Southampton fans? They're a good club, have done things the right way and don't deserve it really. Not that I'm complaining about getting the players mind you, but it just seems sad. Anyway I wouldn't be unhappy if we helped them out by sending Sandro their way (permanent), and maybe Kane and Andros on loan for a season, could make the deal affordable too I guess.

WTF have you been smoking lately? You want us to start helping out other clubs get on their feet while we don't even know if we're going to be a competitive club this season? You do know there's always chance this whole Poch project will go to hell faster than avb's did, don't you?

And then you suggest us handing them Sandro, a player who could be worth x5 times more in just a couple of season if he somehow manages to get rid of his injury record? What's next, selling them Holtby and Bentaleb for 5mill just so maybe they can pull it together? Get real man.

There's only one club we should be trying to help this season, and that's ourselves.

Well obviously I wouldn't want to help them if it harmed us at the same time, but on the assumption that we're selling Sandro, and all things being equal in terms of getting the right valuation I'd be pleased if he went to Southampton rather than say Napoli. As far as the loans are concerned getting some fringe players experience at a club renowned for bringing through and developing its youth doesn't seem such a crazy idea to me either.

I am getting absolutely no enjoyment out of this whatsoever and am a little sickened by the way their squad has been dismantled. Mainly, as you said - because they have gone about things in completely the right way...and this is their reward - it just sends a devastating message (if we didnt already know it before) to the rest of the league just how thick this glass ceiling is.

Just to clarify - I was agreeing with you. The best thing for them now is to get as much money as they can from sales, invest wisely and promote form their excellent youth programme. It may hurt before they get the benefits, but it should leave them in a better positions than less farsighted clubs. Sure that isn't easy for Saints fans to hear - but, having lost, potentially, seven players already, I can't see there being anything to gain from forcing anyone to stay, whereas with that amount of money, some wise purchases and the continuing benefit of their youth policy, it may be one step back for two forward. And we know all about that, don't we (y)

Come on mate. Get a little perspective...surely you must be able to understand how enormously frustrated and gutted Southampton fans must be feeling. They had the nucleus of a side that could have indeed competed higher up the table this season with a bit more squad depth - only to see it get torn to pieces.

We nicked their manager, starting this whole process, and now might be taking off with their last two really valuable assets (well, they still have Clyne). Are we such a touchy bunch that we cant allow them to have what is a well deserved vent?
Quite agree, and I think they're being rather restrained under the circumstances. But what happened?? Why are Southampton having a fire sale after finishing 8th? I must've missed something. Did their finance people do a Leeds?

Shows what Southampton fan's know, if they're prepared to swap Schneiderlin & JRod for players many of us are hoping to off load (or are at least prepared to consider offers for).
If you were trading with us, wouldn't you want our best players - Lloris, Vertonghen, Eriksen & Lennon :angelic:
I see what you did there.

The owner who took them from League 2 to PL passed away and his daughter inherited the club, she gives the grand total of 0 fucks about football and is asset stripping Southampton before likely selling the club.

It's unequal mate, we've history with them from Hoddle, through Dean Richards, Bale, Poch, now maybe Rod and Schneiderlin, on and on it goes, we always, always come out on top, so i don't blame them if they're feeling miffed and expressing it in private on their own board. I'd be miffed. I especially feel sorry for them because they've got to where they are from doing the right thing and now it seems a bunch of carpet baggers have taken over to strip the carcass for their own gain at the expense of the fans who've been with them through thick and mainly thin.

None of which means I don't want us to buy their players, but I'm not going to rejoice in it, and if we can help them out in return, to a mutual benefit, then I'm all for it!

Saintsweb:

"I dont feel animostiy towards Arsenal or Manyoo. They took an oportunity to bag one decent player each. Liverpool and Spurs on the other hand....they are willfully screwing us. The hatred that burns in me for these two is intense."

Arsemania

"I'm at Heathrow waiting for my brother to arrive from Dubai, unfortunately I had to witness the arrival of Sp*ds team. Stephane Freund is one ugly mofo. Erik Lamela seemed to have spent some time in the gym and Christian Erikcsen as well. People didn't seem to care about who the f*ck they were and rightly so. Pity I wasn't wearing my favourite Arsenal retro track suit top."

That's a shame, they're probably gutted they missed his favourite Arsenal retro track suit top

"I'm a little upset that Spurs under Pochetino arent going to be the hilarious, bumblefucks we've gotten used to. He seems a bit too sensible for that. Real shame. In the meantime, Brendan and the boys will have to do."

Nah, I'm talking about the 'bigger' club delusion and the assumed arrogance they adopted on becoming competitive with poch in charge. The shit they came out with when we were after poch was unforgivable as far as I'm concerned (and I read a lot of it). They can rot.

Don't feel anything for them at all and certainly don't want any of our good players going there.

A few opinionated internet pricks doesn't make or represent a whole club or group of supporters.

If we were being systematically dismantled by, for example, Man Utd and Chelsea imagine the anger directed from here.

Some comments from Arsenal fans, reading them is like masturbating, now that we seem to get him.. Btw, many of them now thinks they never were interested, and that they surely now get Khedira. Dont personally rate him, so fuck him and fuck them anyway.

"To me Schneiderlin is the lowest risk of all the central mids linked and at the same time the best fit for an Arteta replacement. Us signing Khedira/Carvalho/Pogba suggests that Wenger wants someone stronger and more Diaby-like to pair with Ramsey, which some fans will love but I am not sure if that's a good direction to go to as it'll probably mean Ramsey will be made to play deeper. I think a lot of you guys who think Schneiderlin isn't world class because he plays for Southampton are being very short sighted, because IMHO I wouldn't be surprised to see Schneiderlin moving to Madrid/Barca/Bayern in a few years time on a big fee. Probably more than the price being quoted which you guys think is too much. But we'll see."

"I think Schneiderlin or Khedira could change everything this season. With Sanchez we are just a nice team, improved but not complete. Add one of those guys and we have team that can challenge for everything (with a little bit of luck)."

"Fun being a Gooner this summer, signed a top attacker,French starting RB, highly rated GK, a young elite English player too maybe. Schneiderlin next please."

"Have to say its a strange thing about him - he is simultaneously underrated and overrated, its quite amazing
icon_lol.gif
. He's much better than given credit though, really hope we get him."

"Schneiderlin's playing mind games with Wenger, telling him to 'sign me now' or suffer the consequences. Morgan's playing hard to get, doesn't want Wenger to think he's easy."

"and then by going to spurs? ermm.. ok we're used to it.. lol."

"
Interesting how few people prefer Schneiderlin to Khedira, where when you look at the numbers, it might make a lot more sense to go for the frenchman.
Looking through whoscored - Schneiderlin averaged 4 tackles a game in his first season in the premiership, that made him the top tackler in the league at the time, even ahead of Luiz Gustavo who i rate highly, Bender, Khedira, Arteta, and even Ramsey. Moreover, none of those players ever reached 4 successful tackles per game at any stage in their careers. He also comes second to Gustavo when it comes to interceptions, and has a higher passing accuracy than everyone bar Arteta.
There's no denying Khedira is a great player, but when you consider Schneiderlin is almost 3 years younger and would have considerably lower wages - it makes more sense to go in for him than Khedira. The other thing is that, hitting such high numbers in his first season in the premiership when he was 23 means that there might even be room for improvement, as opposed to a 27 year old Khedira returning from a serious ACL injury."

"
It's all gone a bit quiet on the Schneiderlin front. This is the player that we actually need in the squad even though Khedira is a great player in his own right.
Hope it gets done."

"Arteta and Flamini need to be upgraded this season, and Schneiderlin is the perfect replacement."

"
Couple key points I made in the Sami thread about Morgan when he was being bashed.
Morgan made the french WC squad this year whilst playing for southampton and under deschamps who is quite picky with who he selects.
He has only just turned 24 and has represented all youth levels of French footy and the biggest thing for me he is a DM for a country that arguably produces consistently the most quality DMs in world football. Hes also PL proven.
Off the top of my head for France alone about 8 other DMs could have been selected over him but werent."

"Schneiderlin is more of a defensive player, but would add so much legs to the midfield. He's like a bigger, stronger, faster flamini from 07/08, with a more composed head and better passing/dribbling."

"Had a dream last night that Wenger wanted Schneiderlin but when he met him he was an arrogant **** and asked for huge wages despite meeting Rodgers earlier and asking for decent wages."

WTF

"Schneiderlin would be the perfect midfield signing. Offers every attribute we're looking for in a CM at the moment. Much of the skepticism around him is really due to his lack of pedigree at the top level, but really, I think he does belong at the top level and proved it for the last couple of seasons. He should be starting for France IMO."

"There is no doubting that Khedira is the bigger name but I can't help but think that Schneiderlin is the much better option."

"Absolutely. Schneiderlin's technical ability can be exploited further forward. He's got the engine to go forward and has done on occasions for Southampton. He's not just a holding player, but he has the tactical discipline to sit when we need him to. That's more than enough, and exactly the kind of player we need. Khedira offers that, but he's probably not quite as good a passer. That's really what does it for me regarding Schneiderlin. If we can add a player with his defensive attributes in midfield and really exploit his passing game, we could have a very dangerous midfield on our hands."

This wasn't just a few.

I can understand how angry and upset they must be, sure, I just don't care.

They've got a good manager, they'll bring through some young players again and buy a few functional players and they'll survive as a club. They are in a good financial position.
