Are you suggesting that we buy Grealish for 60M? Granted, we did pay triple for what GLC would have cost the year before and Grealish is English so 4x what we were trying to opportunistically buy him for may sound reasonable. But that's still 60M! Is there 60M performance you see in him? Or is it ITK from the past and you think he could 'come good'? 60M!!!!
IMO Grealish is a class player. He carries the ball well is an excellent dibbler, you can play the ball to him in tight spaces he has good skill strength and has decent assists plus his shown leadership qualities at Villa. The price for players in general is ridiculous Maguire went for 80 M.... is he an 80M player?

The risk-benefit ratio on this should be right up Levy's alley.

We went some way to address our lack of creativity and technical players with NDombele and Lo Celso this Summer but we still need more in the squad, especially in those midfield positions. Odegaard, Eze and Grealish are all in that mode though the latter may be unobtainable due to price. Winks and Sissoko are useful but lack that class (imo) which means we rely too heavily on Eriksen.

Timo werner for pace up front allowing kane to be a false 9. Alex telles from Porto for left back. Upamecano or kounate from leipzig to add youth to the back line. We need a goalkeeper too. Neubel or donnarumma. Just shows how much we need to invest.

So United, broadly recognized as a dumpster fire, made another big money mistake so we should?

We were only interested in Grealish because DL saw another bargain. 60M on Grealish amounts to 60M to sit on our bench. We need a whole new backline, probs a GK to purchase (one way or another), at least 2 new MFs, and some attackers. And that's not considering we will be getting so little back from all of our outgoings considering contracts or general rubbishness.

Where does 60M on Grealish come in there? And let's not forget he is already 24 and we'll not be seeing drastic improvement in his play.

Wouldn't be so sure at the minute.

With the way we're playing, every single player should be fearing for their place. Every one.

There should be no guarantees starters at this point, and every new player who signs (not that we tend to sign many) should know they've got a fair crack at starting within a couple of games.

If by some miracle Poch is still here in January and wants to do his usual trick of bring players in with a view to starting them in August, then we can write the next few seasons off IMO.

I'm not endorsing spending £60M on Grealish specifically, just to be clear, but you get the point.

Good point on the players here but my response about Grealish is the same as this

I'm very confident Lo Celso will prove to be a much better player than Grealish. That ship has sailed.
I just don't see much in the player. And I definitely see more player in GLC which is why I mentioned the 'bench' part. And in no way is Grealish an 8 or a 6. But yes, I do see your points.

I'll take one Marc Roca please!

Holding midfielder for Espanyol. Lo Celso - Roca - Ndombele would legitimately rival any midfield in the world in terms of technical ability. We would never have an issue with chance creation.

Finger crossed Poch has been keeping up with his old club and has a good relationship with them. Although I did think it was bizarre we didn't pick up Pau Lopez on a free from them. Would have solved our future GK need.

Also, looking at our squad I think we need 4 players to complete the team for the "next era". DM, RB, CB & another playmaker.

If you want to replace Hugo that would be 5. But that seems like you could reasonably complete that over the two windows. If we have a big budget left Bruno Fernandes, Marc Roca, Max Aarons (idk just throwing out a name), and another CB to compete with Foyth & Sanchez. Could also move back Dier to CB and have Sissoko be the backup DM.

Really hope we can build on the performance last night and stable the ship.
I agree with dtxspurs in the positions we are looking for so we could look at the following plan:

---------------------------------XXX / Gazzaniga / Austin--------------------------------
Maybe Lloris but wouldn't mind a change here

-XXX / KWP -- Sanchez / Foyth /Tanganga-- Vertonghen / XXX---Davies /Sessegnon-
A new experienced CB to help Foyth and Sanchez. Wouldn't mind Verts for another year or two before we rely completely on Dave and Foyth. Could cover LB as well if Sess is used more offensive.

--------------------Sissoko / Dier / XXX ---------- Ndombele / Winks / Skipp------------
A new modern DM that can shield the back four and is comfortable on the ball should be one of the priorities. We need quality here we can rely on. The mentioned Roca sounds interesting.

-------Lamela / Lo Celso / Clarke-------Dele / XXX --------------------Son / Lucas------
Another playmaking alternative to long term replace Eriksen. Can be a good talent with first steps made in pro football.

-----------------------------------------Kane / Parrott----------------------------------------
Use Troy before he wants out for regular football.

Would be a squad of 27 players. Probably loan Clarke somewhere and maybe even Skipp.
Hard to drop names of the incomings as Spurs are the only team I watch on a regular basis, but that would be my planning sheet to start with.

DM, RB and CB are clear priorities but I have to say the way Kane played last night and for England I'd love to see us get another quality attacker to play off of him. His vision is up there with some of the best #10s around. Someone in the Son/Mane/Sterling mould. There must be some targets out in Europe that are looking promising. I think that would take our game to the next level. Lucas just doesn't seem to have the consistency to start for us.

I'm guessing our budget would never stretch that far but I couldn't help thinking that way last night. Son looked electric on the left and another on the right would have been deadly.

The players we definitely need to build our attack around are Kane, Son and Ndombele. They were top drawer at times. Lo Celso showed some promising link up when he came on. I'm hopeful he can be a good successor to Eriksen.

Kane reminds me so much of Teddy Sheringham with his vision and ability to find passes. His pace is also Sheringhamesque so I think playing him at 10 is a very real prospect. I'm interested to see how Troy Parrott develops because he's the powerful, dynamic type we'd probably have to spend an absolute fortune on to bring in.

im pretty sure Kane playedoff a number 9 most of his youth career, I’m sure others remember better but I always thought of Kane as the 10 and kudos onyega as the9

Absolutely Grealish is in the same category of player as Zaha, decent players that would help out, but far too expensive for what the'd bring. Smart clubs find those sort of players before they breakout in a big way.

He’s got a young Xabi Alonso vibe to him. Would be an astute signing.

Just came Into thread to post we need a right back, centre back, defensive midfielder and another attacking midfielder / playmaker and you beat me to it!

Still pissed Leicester got Perreira, what the fuck were we doing with that one as were supposed to be eyeing him since Walker left...
