Atal and Fernandes and a whisper of a chance of Dybala could potentially be Jan deals. From what I can gather it seems likely we already had a few irons in those fires. Anyone from that list of six-eighteen months contracts as well, as theres actually players there I'd be looking at regardless of how long they had left on their contract. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see actions taken this Jan, though still, we will be looking at a process to take us through the whole summer as well I'd imagine. But that process must be an ongoing on that has already started.

Not calling anyone out in particular but I never understand the “can’t see it happening” phrase always peddled about. Why can’t you see it? Is it just a gut feeling?

Seeing as I did it last about Upamacano I'll answer, He was being touted for around 50-60 million in the summer with a release clause of supposedly 80 million, there's rumours it falls next summer but that's not confirmed. Leipzig are sponsored by Red Bull so I don't see them being in a position where they need the money and they're 2 points off the top of Bundesliga with a Champions League group which looks favourable for them to qualify. So with all that taken into account I can't see Leipzig being willing to sell in January. So I don't see it as a failure on Spurs behalf if we don't go in for him, I just see it as unrealistic especially when you take into account how much we spent on Sanchez which hasn't worked out yet.

Thanks very much for this reply. Definitely makes sense regarding his availability. I’m guilty of posting without plausible context sometimes myself but I just always feel like that phrase is just code for “FFS Levy” or something.

Nah if I'm honest I was just being lazy with the original one and shouldn't have bothered posting but couldn't help myself could I. Can't blame Levy for not pursuing this one, would be incredible if he did but sometimes you have to just accept the team the player is on has no reason to budge.

Are we going to be attractive in Jan? Is there going to be any certainty on the manager? Difficult to say right now

January just seems such a difficult window to do any serious business. Unless a player is not in favour or kicks up a stink, struggling to see us do too much in terms of major incoming's. We are crying out for a RB and DM, arguably a LB if Sessegnon's future is seen further forward. GK wise, probably can wait until the summer.

Judging by our historical investment, it would seem to suggest that we may spend fairly heavily in January. Levy seems to be more likely to loosen the purse strings the worse our situation gets. IIRC it was the first window under Redknapp when we spent a relative fortune as we were in serious trouble of relegation and the scrutiny was really on us.

We are going through a similar phase at the moment, with the club really under the spotlight and considering the close relationship between Poch and Levy, I would not be surprised if he feels that he owes him one.

Alternatively all of the above could be complete bollocks and Levy will revert to type and try to penny pinch.

I agree with the point that @razzmaster made earlier in the thread that players with 6 or 18 months remaining on their contracts are much more attainable in January than other players. In the case of the former it's their clubs' last chance to get any fee at all for them, and in the case of the latter group it's their clubs' last chance to get full market value before their contracts run down to one year remaining. Even still, clubs can hold out an not want to lose their players in the middle of the season, but it's significantly more likely when there's a strong financial incentive for the club to sell.

The list that @Tottenhamboy85 posted had some good young players that we've been linked with at positions of need. Even if Leipzig won't let go of Upamecano, for instance, I'd happily take Benoit Badiashile considering that IMO we need a left-footed CB more than a right-footer anyway, and given how highly he's rated. Monaco look to be having another mediocre season so I'd be surprised if they were as hesitant to sell as Leipzig, who are in a title hunt.

Similarly, if Sporting don't want to let go of Bruno, I'd also happily take Dani Olmo at a significantly lower price. For the DM position, we've been linked with Berge for years and many on SC have touted Sangare as a big talent. Doesn't seem like there are any players we've been linked with whose contracts are running down for the RB position, so that may be something of a struggle.

Big question for me is whether Poch rates any of the players whose clubs might be willing to let go of them for financial reasons, or whether he'll insist on a relatively short list of players under long contracts whose clubs may be adamantly opposed to losing their top talents in the middle of the season. I'm sure that Levy is willing to spend, it's just a question of whether the players Poch targets will be available at all.

We should stay clear of Berge. I was one of his supporters previously but having watched a couple of games lately I'm convinced he doesn't and never will have what it takes to play for us as he is basically Tom Huddlestone. Same strengths and weaknesses.

I think Olmo is a good replacement for when Eriksen leaves us and Badiashile seems a terrific prospect. My biggest concern is RB however as there is a lack of really good targets out there right now. I'm definitely not convinced by Atal and think he will prove to be a mistake as he's very suspect defensively and I'd rather go for Denzel Dumfries at PSV.

the trouble with those that only have 6 months left on their contracts is those players might prefer what we suspect to be happening with Eriksen. they will run their contracts down to get a free move in the summer and pick up a signing on bonus.

the only way Eriksen will go in January will more likely be if RM put an offer in, otherwise I expect he will go elsewhere in the summer for a free.

hopefully, we can get his replacement in January and providing the player has been playing this season, it might not take so long for Poch to use him. when Moura signed he had only played something like 72 minutes that season. get a player that has been playing, and with a hopefully fit and settled GLC, then Eriksen could be very unused in his final months with us, whereas at the moment we are including him because we don't have a player of that skill (on his day) to replace him.

My concern with Berge was always the mobility issue given his size. It’s so fast and hectic in the PL these days, you’ve got to have really mobile players in there, especially at DM.
