Hopefully we'll soon get some ITK for you to discuss for a nanosecond before moving on to far weightier issues such as players height and whether or not a centre half pairing of R2D2 and Ronnie Corbett would have the required passing ability.

From what I constantly heard, as early as couple days ago. He sees himself as an ‘8’. Playing position he played in the academy. Josè agreed, but it was about him playing that position he needs to be a goal threat, and his assists would have to go along with it. And as of then the entire coaching staff with JM were not thinking of selling him. Seeing him as a a ‘Tottenham blood’ kid. And also English born. And to get anyone near his quality (actually less) would be extortionate.

I know things can change, but cannot see it here. Unless! The club is forcing him out, and that is not the case.

That is good news, as I can see him having a great season this year.
The money being quoted for him was nowhere near enough for a player of his quality, pedigree and length of contract.

Good. I would hate for Winksy to leave. He’s a great example for the academy kids coming through, and he’ll be a whole lot better with PEH taking over the defensive duties.

To have Winksy around is great. He probably won't lead us to a league title or anything, btu he can always put a shift in and at the verly least he is a perfect rotation player for busy periods.
Hopefully with PEH sitting behind him he can finally contribute more goals and assists. He really lacks in that area.

Im delighted with that. Cannot underestimate how important it is to have players within the squad who will give everything for the shirt, which is what Winksy does. Thanks for the info Herc!

I think he's a real talent and so pleased to hear this and It will also upset a lot of the butt hurts I've seen in the Winks thread this morning.

Lovely to hear. Winks has a hell of a strike on him too, he's hit the bar a few times/got very close from range if I'm not mistaken. Would be great to see him get into positions where he can take these shots on more often.

It’s concerning that for Winks to play the ‘8’ role it requires both assists and goals. Our centre backs have better assist and goal records than Winks. I can see the value in keeping him as a squad player but he seriously lacks attacking intent and his shooting is abysmal. It’s wishful thinking to expect him to suddenly start providing assists and goals.

I mean he definitely needs to improve this aspect of his game. But the last two seasons he has been playing as a number 6. He hasn't played n8 regularly since he was 22 so you can't really judge those numbers in recent seasons. And for a number 8 it's not like he should be hitting a combined double digits. More he just needs to be able to offer something in that way to make us a little more unpredictable.

Winks is clearly a player that should be kept on for all kinds of reasons and I'm happy with this news. He has also been speaking this week about next season, so it seems his head is here. Good news.

Everyone banging on about assists and goals from an 8, it’s nonsense lol. Ndombele was one of the most promising 8s in the world when we bought him and he got hardly any goal contributions for Lyon. It’s not necessary at all. Think of all the best centre mids in the world, how many consistently score goals and assist. So I don’t see why Winks can’t stay and play 8, he just needs to be progressive as possible which he he has showed glimpses of.
