I've been thinking the same lately, that it's time to stop doing this. I agree that it's like the clapping for the NHS and it has run its course. We all want an end to racism, but taking the knee has lost its impact IMHO.

@Maxtremist why not add a poll and see what people think?

Appreciate the sentiment behind this and happy people are sharing their opinion. But to just be blunt about it I'd rather not make a poll for this issue. I don't wanna try and speak for other Black men but I personally don't wanna put a poll up where one option would basically be me saying 'As a Black man, I'm tired of seeing this performative display of solidarity' whilst the other option is essentially 'no no, this performance is helping people remember racism is still happening'

okay what are they doing instead then? nothing? lol.

I mean from knowing some of the people at QPR and how they've reacted since a friend of mine who wrote a poem for them died, I trust and have seen QPR to do the right thing more often than not.

Besides it's also, in this instance, asking those who are being oppressed to do more. I mean the focus is on Les Ferdinand to a degree who's said the act of kneeling is performative. I very much agree. So stopping doing that is good. Why must they immediately (or ever) have to come up with a better solution? You can just sometimes say something is not good and not have to offer up an alternative (though I get the feeling QPR are actually a good club who do put in the effort and actions off of the pitch)

Absolutely brilliant work by Les Ferdinand and QPR on this one.
I'm not gonna lie, seeing everyone taking a knee in such a formulaic manner has really been bugging me and annoying me and I think it doesn't really mean much anymore. It's just basically good PR rather than actual solidarity or making a change.

So hearing QPR didn't take the knee and then seeing their reasoning behind it... I'm totally here for it.

You fackin’ tell ‘me Les! ??

He raises a very good point about no action being taken against Spain as well.

Do you actually have a constructive opinion or does everything come wrapped in lol and smh.

You've been engaged on what can be a touchy subject in a respectful manner by @Maxtremist so how about you act like an adult, stop trolling and give him the respect, the subject and his reply to you deserves.

My second team is QPR, wonderful community club

I used to go to a lot of games over there, i must have about 30 Les Ferdinand autographs and 40 Ray Wilkins autographs.

What Les has said is correct

QPR even named their stadium after a 15 year old black kid that got stabbed to death in London last season.
If there is any club with its ethnic diversity right the way through the club to the top that can take the lead in this, it is QPR

I'm telling you there is something bad about the collective kneeling. As is Les Ferdinand. As are others.
What was a powerful and important gesture has now become hollow and more of a PR issue than an actual racism issue or oppression issue. And you are stubbornly and naively ignoring that and not listening to what's being said.

Kneeling in general and in protest... totally here for that. Totally here for the Black Lives Matter movement, no room for racism movement.

But kneeling at the start of every game now cause we have to and just cause it's the thing to do is not helpful and will end up doing more harm than good cause many will see it and think that's enough. That just kneeling in of itself will help stop racism. And that's not enough. So just doing it and especially how long it's gone for and how little else is happening is showing it's a hollow token gesture.

Look to the NBA who collectively postponed games to protest. Or who worked on campaigning so that their stadiums are now used as voting centers for elections to help the reach of people. They did more than kneeling. Les, now myself and others are saying kneeling alone isn't enough and the act of it before every premier league and championship game really isn't the fix or helpful.

My old man did a lot of work over there in the 1970's. Painted the stands. Did maintenance works there and also out Ruislip training ground, the days of Bowles, Gerry Francis, Mancini etc.

I mean I literally explained my issues. And that's without going into the personal of me being a Black man feeling increasingly uncomfortable about the kneeling in the Premier league as I do personally feel it's so hollow.

You, on the other hand, are being wilfully ignorant.

I guess the message from A&C about not trolling, showing respect, having constructive opinions, not wrapping everything up in lol and smh's went totally over his head. I would like to suggest elocution and spelling lessons for him also

I agree with Les in terms of Europe but in America it has an impact.

Taking a knee started during the NFL and Kaepernick

The majority of NFL teams are still refusing to take a knee now, with teams boycotting it and sitting in the locker rooms, imo like a bunch of bitches

They started this shit and cant even be unified after all that's happened. Kansas City booed their team standing for BLM:banghead:

And on the other side of that, MLS teams have been booed for taking the knee during the anthem.
I think the issue many over there have, is not the taking of the knee or not, but taking it during the anthem, something we don't have issue with over here as apart from a few sports such as Ice Hockey and International matches it isn't routinely played at beginning of sporting events.
