Not surprised we signed Ferguson. He looked better than anything we had. Presumably our interest was why he did not sign a contract for Sheffield U.Fb and cb . He looks good

Clarke subbed at half time
Was that Jack Clarke starting?

interesting. I wonder how he looked at that level.

Clarke was subbed at half time don't know if he was injured or it was pre-agreed

For Ferguson he wouldn't be able to play unless he was registered so he must have signed some sort of contract

To be balanced on the kwp debate, it's difficult for fans to judge a player when they've not seen the best he can produce. We've seen the best of Walker, Trippier and Aurier (what is it with our right backs ending in "er") but even when kwp got the mom performance there wasn't enough there to make people say wow so what they had to compare against wasn't a lot.
Obviously he didn't have many chances and that's a big issue but people can only judge what they see.
It's also why Aaron's got a lot of praise, he had a couple of standout performance but didn't perform defensively better than kwp but people were pitching him as a solution

This is fair, and tbh it's why I my issue isn't with fans but with management. I've never criticised the fans. Why would a fan be critical of a manager if they've never seen an academy player or an academy player put in the best performance for the first team. It's upto the manager to see what's going on in training or speak to academy coaches and trust them, but plenty don't. The fans are only going to judge what they see from opposition players v their own, and will have little information about how similar players compare at academy level or international level.

Binks and Tanganga may play different styles and have different attributes but fundamentally they play the same position on the pitch. If Binks was pushed into the first-team and made appearances I can't see any world where Tanganga is part of the first team.

While I agree with this I don't necessarily think it's right. It shouldn't be the way, that we give CCV chances so we expect to give Tanganga chances as he's two years younger, or we now have Tanganga so we shouldn't expect to try out Binks. Like we are only expected to do one, and then think we've done our job. Again, I'm not saying bringing them all through it's more the attitude of, we've done our job don't try anymore. If a player is talented I think we should find a way, especially when there's at least 2 years age gap between them, and we end up signing young and inexperienced players anyway. Again this makes it very hard without loans though. I've mentioned the City situation a few times, when they had Sancho, Foden, Matondo, Diaz, Poveda and Richards. One is born in 99 and the others all born in 00s, and four of them are playing regular top level football. One just got promoted to the Prem and the other is still finding his feet after regular injuries. If they had all stayed at City and they had only brought one through the fans would have been pleased and not realised on the amount of talent also missed out on.

I guess my point is, I understand it's very difficult and there is a limit to how many can be brought through, but I find it frustrating that we just let talent disappear because we automatically decide, that once one person is given a chance in a certain position or generally it's almost as if we'v ebought time, before we have to give another a chance. It always feels like youth development is an exercise in PR, to say look what we've done with our academy, as opposed unearthing top players and genuinely trying to strengthen our team. This is a league wide thing.

With all the lack of striker talk and Troy out on loan...I wonder if there is any thoughts on Kion Etete for the trip to Plovdiv...

Let’s be honest...the guy represents a skill set that we severely lack in the team , in the fact that he is a colossal forward. We know that José likes his big forwards and could be a real troublemaker if he is thrown on for 30-45 mins.
Think how many time Fellaini bailed Mourinho out at United, or how we ended up in the final of the CL due to Llorente’s holdup play.

Marcus Rashford couldn’t even start for the U23’s at Utd, for a chance and took it. Is Etete the next Rashford? No, probably not. But if we can take a 25 man squad to Bulgaria with us, and again for the next qualifying round...I think it’s a no brainer not to include your 6foot6 striker in that. Especially at a time when it’s the position we lack the most.

Take a punt on the kid, I honestly cannot see any downside? Even if we are 2-3 goals up. Throw him on, get him some experience, because the chances are we’ll have to call upon somebody this season, and I think it would be awesome to be him...

Just my opinion, genuinely interested to see what you all think?

COYS

I think Etete would essentially be like a DCL who I don't particularly rate, though accept he is improving. If the option is Kane or noone then sure give Etete a try if he's knackered and it's a EFL Cup or EL game and we need to bring someone off the bench. But I don't see him as a genuine striker option in the future. We would essentially just go to lumping it up to him, him attempt to hold it up. He might appear to do OK, and even grab a goal, but he won't maintain in my opinion a level ability we need to be a genuine option in the future. Doing the above though could get a decent fee for us to invest elsewhere though.

England u21 we got skipp playing

I watched the game last week and that England lineup is one of the best I've seen. Skipp had a decent game, but it was full of stars everywhere. There are definitely players I'd arguably prefer to come in, but a CM of Skipp and Bellingham is the kind of CM, I could see for England in the future and would be genuinely top class partnership. One can dream

Scarlett scored 2 and had 2 assists

Tried to sneak myself into this yesterday but didn't make it. Shame. I've been going on about these guys for so long, and there's a good chance I won't ever get to see them play at u18s now.

Brilliant start from them too, also a lot happier seeing Lusala at CB and hope he continues there. I first saw him as a CB, and never really been a fan of him at RB. But he seemed to somehow move into that position. Having played there so much going into CB he will be even more comfortable on the ball. Great Cesay got a goal too, he's a strange one due to how big he is. Would arguably like to see BBW, another who I prefer at CB maybe get a couple of games at RB this season to bed him in early.

Just saw something on twitter, apparently Palace fans are annoyed at Hodgson for not playing any youngsters. I don't think anyone is surprised from Roy

Not really sure where to discuss this but I thought I'd see what's happening with Kirby and TOB, and pretty much like I said, Palace fans are annoyed he's not getting a game. They wanted him to start at CM, and are annoyed at the idea they might get Connor Gallagher in on loan, which demonstrates why him going Chelsea would've been a good idea. The classic grass is always greener mantra. Apparently Kirby was also Blackpool's best player last season and Palace's best academy player, unsurprisingly.

And on TOB, I was checking why he didn't make the bench and it seems some Stoke fans are confused. I think I read one or two say he was their best player in preseason. Ahh the perils of being a young player trying to come through. Especially if you've got technical ability.

At least we've still got Skipp.

Not exactly our youth but one of our previous back in the premier League. David Button on the bench for WBA at the moment.

And Livermore on the field.

I wonder how many former youth players we have in the prem?

My local club Southend United are trying to bring in Shilow Tracey on a season's loan.
