Hindsight is a great thing but see absolutely no reason to have dropped Tanganga, been fantastic for us only to witness his replacement do as bad a tackle as you’ll see in the box ever, total brain fart. We also barely looked like scoring, hard to get too excited about 2nd leg after witnessing that.

Any competent striker and we win that game. Honestly the second we started playing they looked average at best.

I respectfully disagree. They could have and should have been out of sight.

Also why are we 'the second we started playing' in the 70th minute? I am absolutely flabbergasted by the tactics.... I agree we looked better when we started to play so why arent we doing it... ive maintained w elook better when we build up so lets just fuckin do it... argh

@Trix That's just Hugos job right? Straight at him right?
Lol, are you his mum or something?

I always praise when it's deserved, I always criticise the same. He did very well today. Nothing special first half. I'd expect any top flight keeper to save those. Had to make more difficult saves the second half and did so.

If you think a good performance like this is going to stop criticism of him when he shanks it out of play under little pressure, you're very wrong though.

I hated everything about how we played the first 60 minutes. Loved everything about how Lo Celso and Ndombele (inter)played!

They both have to start.

Beaten by a team I read in some quarters that were going to give us a pasting (other terms are available) ... Not great by any stretch but with out two of the best players to be playing in this country thought you could see what we were trying to do.

Probably more games like this will follow.

Weekend is going to be hard, but it always is, isn't it?

Positives

Le Celso - will be a great player for us.

Ndombele - what a class player BUT can understand why limited game time as looks a bit unfit.

Dele - not sure he is good enough - he needs to play in the middle upfront only - too slow wings imo And slows play up.

imo I think Mourinho got this wrong in our mentality in the game - out to not concede rather than impose ourselves on the game.

At least I got to see a side playing proactive, energetic football tonight. Shame it wasn’t Spurs.

In all seriousness, they reminded me of Poch’s 15-16 side. A nightmare to play against, a smattering of top quality, and just a really well-coached side.

Ndombele? Gedson? Bergwijn? Alderweireld? Winks?

It’s not the players’ fault we got left woefully short in key areas. It’s not their fault Kane, Son, Sissoko are out with long term injuries.

I thought the players gave a reasonable account of themselves today. There were none who I’d say were going through the motions and couldn’t be arsed.

Lucas, Alli, Aurier didn’t have great games but they were trying. Serge especially, he always does, even if he often gets it wrong.

Can’t ask for more than that, in reality.

This is just kneejerk nonsense.
so give everyone a gold star for effort?

Something desperately needs to change because I cannot abide this current style of football.
Yea it’s a hard watch isn’t it but this same style got us a win against wolves and Man City, 20 shots against villa and nearly a point at least against Liverpool. If he can grind us out an fa cup would it not be worth it?

Far too often slows the play down and think teams have somewhat worked him out to. Really needs to up his game.

Indeed he does, but I think his 'I've made it, I'm the dogs bollocks' attitude fucking stinks the whole of WHL out!! Can't remember the last time he played well. The boy is just wasting his talent.

I actually don't mind the pragmatic approach we took tonight. It's hardto watch at times but what else can he do with what hes got at his disposal? It very nearly worked for us and aside from the brain fart by Davies we may well have come out with at worst a draw, if not a win, as they may have come out a bit more chasing a goal and left some gaps.

2nd leg is 10th March, 3 weeks away. We might get lucky and Son will be back, or we will have figured out how to play without him and Kane by then.

I don't know, it's nice to win but this kind of football is not Spurs.

He does'nt even have the players to play this way, we have a squad full of technical footballers and he's asking them to put it in the mixer and make the game physical.

We need to defend and attack by playing and looking after the ball.

Even more so without a natural striker.

I'm losing faith, I thought Mourinho was smarter than this.

Whilst we improved after they scored the goal I'm pretty convinced that they simply dropped down a gear and were looking to just see it out and go again in the 2nd leg with a one goal lead.

Yes we upped it but what is concerning me is that even when we did that, I couldn't really see us scoring, and I'm wondering where the goals are coming from.

I sincerely hope Mourinho's tactic going forward in the period we don't have Son as well as Kane is to simply hang on and get completely dominated in the hope we get a breakaway goal. If we continue to do this, and that is the main tactic, the most I can see us getting is the odd draw here and there combined with a large majority of defeats.
