Is it just me?

The comments I've read seem pretty satisfied with today. How is it possible to be satisfied when.....
- we had 33% possession in a home match
- for the first 75 minutes the only time we competed for the ball was in, or on the edge of, our own box
- they had the time to do exactly what they wanted with the ball with virtually no pressure from us
- the only 'attacking' idea that we had was a hopeful punt upfield

I've read and heard that we deserved a point. Did we fuck. We parked the bus for 75 minutes and only when we were getting desperate (and two subs came on) did we even try to compete higher up the pitch and try to play some football.

Audere est facere?

Not today.
It doesn't sit right accepting a loss, but given what we have available and how shite we have been, to even be in the game until the end tells me enough.
Liverpool are the best team by a mile. Managed the game well.
Tanganga was brilliant.
Lo Celso has to start in place of Eriksen. Don't agree with booing our players but it's time for him to be moved on.

You can defend Mourinho's tactics without having to make up fact-free bollocks about Poch's time at Spurs. You have zero idea what might have happened in this game under Poch especially as our recent record against Liverpool (under Poch) suggest the complete fucking opposite.
The current state of us and Liverpool compares to 3 or 4 seasons ago are opposites. On recent form under Pochs reign I'm inclined to agree that had poch gone up against this Liverpool team with this Spurs team and our injuries we'd have got bum raped hard. Just an opinion though. No right or wrong.

Anyone who was at the game today what was the atmosphere like? It sounded quite loud at points, was there a general frustration with the defensive way we set up or were most of the fans very much behind the team and the plan?

I think as I’ve posted earlier that the way we played today was extremely promising and we almost had to set up that way with all the injuries we have etc against the best team in the world right now, I think if we can get Jose 4-6 top signings we can do a good re-build here but I am a little concerned that the match going fans won’t put up with that style of football even though it may well be the way to finally win us a trophy again.

You can tell from the comments on here who was or wasn’t at the game. I thought we played really well today. Ok first half wasn’t great but we went for it in the second half. We had a number of excellent chances and in the end I was heartbroken that we lost. It was also a huge testament of the performance that so many fans stayed after the final whistle to applaud the team. Liverpool have won 20 out of 21 games, when do you ever see that?! They’ve beaten just about everyone so there is certainly no shame in us losing. Stop listening to them ****s on sky and get behind Jose and this team. Of course we need a few new players but I actually think it will be a relief once Eriksen goes. I’m always gutted when we lose but things felt different today. I hope this is the turning point and we can put a run together now. COYS!

Completely get where you’re coming from mate and I’m a bit torn on this as well because it was a very boring watch.

the guys on sky said afterwards how football has changed now and fans expect to be entertained but the counter argument is that we have 5 of our best players out injured and are vastly inferior man for man in every position to Liverpool so if we had a ‘modern manager’ who set us up to try and press them and play them at their own game I think given the team we currently have we could’ve ended up getting an absolute battering!

in terms of deserving a point however I would say that yes we did deserve at least a point, they had a goal and 2 clear chances and we had 2 clear chances also and more shots than them, most of their possession was just passing it around their back 4 which was fuck all threat to us, Jose got that plan spot on and we nearly came away with a very unlikely point.

its one thing not enjoying the style of play but i disagree we didn’t deserve a point, we absolutely did and Jose and the boys can be applauded for that and the work they did this week clearly showed today which is for me very promising.

personally I didn’t love watching us play like that but needs must an until we get our squad re-build going I’m happy however Jose wants us to play in order to get us the best results as we’ve not won anything for ages so if he wins us an Fa cup in 2-3 years at the club by hook or by crook I’d personally absolutely take it regardless of how we play, if however the results don’t come and we play negatively then I imagine the fans alone will drive him out prettty quickly but I’m optimistic he will do well for us.

COYS.

Yes I’d say it was a fairly boring watch because Liverpool couldn’t get through our set up so just proceeded to pass it side to side around their back 4 and we waited to pounce but didn’t have much of the ball so not many moments to enjoy or get excited about especially in the first half.
As I said I was completely 100% happy with the approach and the plan but compared to say early poch high press days or even peak redknapp days with Lennon bale modric VDV yes this was a boring approach.

im sure many others would agree and quite a few neutrals have said the same, but again I DO NOT have a problem at all with that setup against what right now is a vastly superior team especially considering our injuries I think we did fantastically well, but it was hardly blockbuster edge of the seat stuff.

It's just not true. We've spend more net than they have. The difference is that Klopp decided to sell a key asset and re-invest, Poch decided to keep the exciting team we already had together. Very, very few on here would have disagreed with him at the time and said we should try to sell one of our stars to Barcelona to raise funds.

Even at his best Barca and Madrid would have never paid what levy demanded for him. He is and always will be a good but not great player.

I get what you mean about the hoofing, but the flip side is the irrespective, suicidal passing it out from the back that we were doing under Poch. That gave me kittens every time I watched a match.
I don't think it's the flip side - if done well it's the progressive way to play. And you have to keep trying to get good at it. A mix of long and short is good too. But a giant lump into the sky shouldn't be part of any mix. If you're going long, aim at a player or a space. It was basically coming vertically out of the sky, which is futile and brutal to watch.

The Kane from the Brighton game yes, the Kane from the rest of the season, not so sure.
Kane is a top draw player at any time. The only time some say he's not doing enough is when we're playing absolute shite and he hardly sees the ball in the last 3rd because of it.
He's the best player we have had in decades.
Enjoy it while it lasts.

I cant really criticise any individual to be honest. We've tried to sit deep, pack the defence, and be disciplined. You're going to be forced to clear your lines and live off scraps. For the most part I think we did alright, and everyone has put in a shift and tried to do their role.

I also don't really get the wailing. We're against the runaway leaders and sometimes you have to sit in and try and hold out. Big fucking deal.

The goal though is an example of small margins in sport, and how two, three, four, very small things not going in your favour often then leads to a big event. They get a bit of luck with the throw in decision, but then Alderweireld doesn't deal with it very well when in a good position to do so, Alli doesn't win a 50-50 edge of the box, and Tanganga is left a bit exposed but gets sold a huge dummy when trying to recover. And it's 1-0 in the blink of an eye.

We'll have to change our approach now I guess, not sure what to, but we cant really afford to open up too much.
Winks was marking Firmino at the throw in but when the ball went over his head and Firmino went into the penalty area he left him and was just standing in the edge of the penalty area marking??, space??. If he stuck with him Firmino would not have either received the ball or not had the space to sell a dummy to aTanganga and shoot. Not knocking Winks that much because that seems to be the modern trend- no body actually marks anyone in the box any more they just mark space. You see it all the time. Ball comes into the box, there’s plenty of defenders, but the opposition’s top scorer is in acres of space and scores comfortably while the defenders look on. At one point in the first half there was 3 Liverpool players all unmarked at the back post despite Sours having 7 or 8 defenders back. Don’t understand how that idea caught on as space never scored a goal.

Liverpool have overtaken us so badly in the last few seasons it’s embarrassing.

I’m from Belfast so maybe only make It over to 2 to 3 games a season, but surely it is getting time for a proper revolt against ENIC.

I cannot understand how they can invest so much in club infrastructure yet when it comes to the playing squad, they have absolutely no desire to improve or challenge for honours.

I don’t understand how you can build the best stadium and training facilities on the planet. But then let the actual playing squad grow old and stagnate. Totally fucking bizarre. It’s obviously just all about the property prices for DL and JL

It’s been 20 odd years now of ENIC neglect.

If they don’t want to properly compete then they should fuck off.

I love our club, always have done and always will, but as I mentioned, I don’t get to many games so can’t vote with my feet. But I’ll certainly think twice about buying my 3 kids and 2 nephews any more spurs kit until I see some proper money invested in the squad.

Got to say, for a set of fans who pride themselves on being great, and having a team running away with the title, Liverpool fans were pathetic yesterday. One of the quietest we’ve had their all season imo. Palace, Sheffield Utd, even Brighton far louder

Atmosphere was good. Best it had been for a while. The nobs in front of me in the south stand we’re back though (they’ve haven’t bothered coming for a while thankfully). They turned up shitfaced, moaned all first half and then left shortly after half time.

On the whole, I think the majority around me realised what was happening though and that the players did try hard (although I thought there were quite a few occasions where they didn’t have each others backs).

Spot on mate , thought players apart from Eriksen gave everything against the world's number one team .
According to the stats we had 14 shots at goal with just the 4 on target , compare that to Leicester against Liverpool a few weeks ago , 3 shots at goal, zero on target.
We set up to allow them possession and try to use the pace of Lucas & Sonny to hit them on the break.
Could have been so different at the end either Sonny or Giovanni should have at least hit the target .
Right about the fans as well never seen so many applaud the team after a defeat.
And It's not just Sky you should avoid also avoid listening to the comments on Talksport , whoever the pundit was after the game complaining that we didn't push our full backs very far forward, obviously whoever he has completely oblivious to fact that Alexander-Arnold & Robertson have 18 assists between them this season the highest of any full back pairing in the league , now I wonder why Jose instructed Serge and Danny not to be to cavalier in going forward.
