I'm a Lamela fan, but holding onto the ball too long is his great besetting sin as an attacking footballer. He's done it since he arrived, he does it in every game, he does it more often than not and it appears to be an ineradicable flaw in his game.

I reckon he would have double the number of assists if he would just pass the bloody thing a second quicker.
Agree it's so annoying because he can often receive the ball and beat 1/2 players quite easy, but then he has to go for the 3/4th man where more often than not it breaks down.

I wouldn't disagree that it's his biggest flaw David, and you're likely right that he won't eradicate it, but I hold out hope that it improves as our movement up front is getting better and better.

The positive is that, imo, it's his only flaw. Whilst he can be frustrating in that respect, he does still find that "killer ball" and his work rate, outright tenacity and, as has been extolled on here plenty, his shithousery is second to none. He brings an intensity to the game that raises everyone else's effort levels and that is priceless.

If JM is able to coach him into releasing the ball quicker more often, he could well become one of the most important players we have on the pitch.

I was starting to think that we might have to let him go to upgrade, but I've given my head a wobble since then as I think his pluses outweigh his minuses.
