We need to buy the best defensive midfielder we can realistically get and for once we will need to overpay to get him

A defensive midfielder we can pass forward. On the 15th min toby played a ball to Dier and he just had to turn with it and pass forward. What did he do? He passed it back to toby as soon as he got it

Toby was pissed off with him

If he had better alternatives to Dier he would play them. Its embarrassing the alternative is s Crocked wanyana and a youngster
Yes but play one or the other don’t play both. The options exist to do that.

Skipp May be young but he would 100% would have offered more energy and dynamism going forward than Dier today.

Jose is meant to be a world class manager and he has earnt it. However most all of us on here understand that Dier and Sissoko in midfield is just not a viable plan for how we like to play football. He seems hellbent on continuing his hard on for Dier and I just don’t understand it.

If a player is hooked after 29mins and then after 45 mins within the space of 5 odd games it means either the manager is making the same mistakes or the player is performing poorly.

NDombele might be out of shape but he has the potential and ability to be world class and to not play him boggles my mind.
tbf I think Dier did his job effectively today, and has been playing a lot better than many on here seem to think. Against Wolves and Burnley he was really effective, particularly against aerial threats in the box. In both games it was a strategic move. Basically we are 2-0 down, a risk adverse holding midfielder is not going to help us here.

NDombele will I'm sure play more as time goes on, playing him with Sissoko, however, is madness, it won't work, hasn't worked, will never work. NDombele looks much more effective when thinking forward. He needs to play with a more defensive minded player who is there essentially to fill in the games of what Jose has called a 'positional' player. I don't fully trust Winks to play this role and would rather see him as a number 8 but he has been playing it pretty much all of this season.

The problem with the current midfielders is there isn't a good enough passer in there, and not just there but in the team as a whole. IN the past it was Eriksen's job really to provide that. But now we seem more interested in getting the ball quickly up the field and trying to get hold of it somehow. Now this works against weaker opponents, but against the stronger teams maybe we do need some control.

Personally, I’d not place too much blame on Jose today.

He’s not had a pre-season with the squad.

Sess has been injured for a while and has only recently returned back from injury. Not sure why he wasn’t on the bench and Rose was. I hope it’s not another injury.

Ndombele clearly has had fitness issues otherwise I’m sure he’d be a regular starter under Jose.

GLC has to show Jose that he’s willing to do his defensive duties if he’s going to get more playing time.

None of the current squad were bought by Jose.

He’s an experienced coach and will get the team sorted out soon. We just need to be a bit more patient.

A full weeks training , which was what Jose wanted, Embarassing to say the least.
We have no midfield. I really do not understand no Harry Winks. Forget about Eriksen....he just does not do it anymore.
Jose will need to have the guts to play Winks and Ndombele.
Dier is ok if we play two attacking fullbacks up the pitch, not a centre half and someone who is a car crash waiting to happen. All our good possession ends up with Aurier......give me strength!!!!
I don’t know what it is about Lampard but he just gets up my nose at times. Especially after the final whistle today.

Incredibly disappointed to hear those announcements today, made an already shit day a desperately depressing day.

I hope they identify every single one of the ****s and report them to the police. No room for racism in football, or in life.

I'm honestly not sure that this club will ever be able to forge a real mental strength that lasts for more than brief periods.

Even after the last 5 years of confidence building (one would hope) and then Mr mind games himself being appointed, I still expected this game to go the way that 95% of these big games, games that put down a marker, have done for my entire Spurs life.

And it did. Not even angry or disappointed. Just the way it had always been. Maybe Jose can change that for a couple of years but we will revert back to type when he moves on either way.

It's just who we are underneath it all.

Mourinho has only rotated heavily once in his 8 games, and very few changes. so to blame Poch is a bit OTT.

with Rose we are talking about a player that's counting the days down to the end of his contract, and Mount has 9years youth in him compared to Rose. with Dembele he did more in his short spell compared to most of the team did in the whole 90

Feels wrong to even talk about the football, massively shameful and embarrassing. Really hope the club handles the racism incident quickly and forcefully. Can’t say I’ve felt much worse than this as a fan.

As for the football, our problems are clear and Frank delivered a masterclass in exploiting them. Our fullback play is appalling and if you attack down the flanks in numbers, you don’t have to worry about being outnumbered in the middle of the pitch because our pivot play is so poor. Really sick of hearing how we don’t need signings. It’s so obviously incorrect from anyone who has watched us the last year.

It’s all easily explained: Dembele sold, Wanyama/Dier crocked, Trippier/Rose total collapse in form. None effectively replaced.
Winner 100x! Great post spot on

well that was a complete shitshow in every way. The goals we conceded were bush league, Sonny banned for 3 games and racist abuse of an opponent (which makes no sense to me since we had black players on the pitch)

Firstly, this was very similar to the United game where the other team wanted it more. Secondly it's worrying how Mourinho, a manager known for his tactical process, got everything wrong today.

Lastly and most importantly. The alleged racist chants is a new low. I feel embarrassed and alienated. Ban those responsible for life.

I do hope this is the end of cozy Mourinho. We need absolute ruthlessness from now on. If you don't perform you don't play. Let Lo Celso, Ndombele, Sessegnon, Skipp get a fair chance. We might have lost today anywhow, but at least we'll know that it's players that will benefit from the learning curve.

Well I don’t disagree to be honest but unfortunately if we didn’t play the players who looked unfit then I think we would have a team of 3 ?

Surely winks would have been a good choice today and most days with this current squad?

I agree in regards to who should play with Ndombele. I think what we are crying out for is a true DCM. Imagine Kante with Ndombele or Wanyama before he was fucked. For me that is the one position that really needs addressed above all others bar maybe RB

"I think the penalty should have been a red card, he has flown at him. I don’t think he means to do it so I can understand why it is not, it is probably fair."

Lampard never struck me as the brightest.
